I see there was an update to Apple Devices today so I will proceed with the update, with caution. For the record, I asked if it was safe to update and I received a lot of laughter, but not one person chimed in with actual helpful firsthand experience. I am glad all of you take this so seriously
Man, you seem you like to make yourself suffer. You are choosing the worst literally way to update it, and most of us stay as far away from that application as we can possibly can. You are not getting helpful responses because hardly anyone here will use that method.

If your worried about your phone this much, then installing beta firmware might not be for you. There are hundreds of posts in multiple threads stating how stable this has been this go around. If you’re that worried about it, maybe just wait for the final release.
We all understand the risks and sign the TOS knowing this could cause a rough day, but we do it anyway. Install it at your own risk and just deal with the consequences if they arise. Or don’t and just wait it out.
This is an RC. Apple Devices will be equally as finicky with beta software or a final release depending on the day of the week, relative humidity, and the color of Tim Cook's mood ring.
it is not by choice as this is what we are offered on Windows, but I will at least report back with my findings so that others in the same position may not have to take the same risks

My first attempt at an IPSW update with Apple Devices (the new version as updated today in the Microsoft Store) failed partway through, with a long unintelligible error code I can no longer reference to reproduce here.
However I force restarted the iPhone into recovery mode and restarted the update process, and it completed successfully the 2nd time around.
I completely stayed away from this iOS beta cycle and updated from 26.5.2, so everything is new to me here. I will note that my phone is considerably slower and hotter than it is during the usual post-update indexing, but maybe there is some very heavy lifting to be done in the background.
My immediate note after literally 5 seconds of use is that the photos app behavior is strange. when double tapping a photo it now zooms WAY in, instead of zooming in just enough for the photo to fill the iPhone's display like it previously did in all versions of iOS 26. I'm sure there is more weirdness yet to be found.

This beta cycle has been the most stable in recent memory. In many ways beta 3 was better than 26.6.x for me.
While I never noticed this gesture, I suspect the change is part of adapting to a world where all iPhone displays are not basically the same size/aspect ratio. The gesture is the same on iPad. When the image doesn't match the display aspect (black bars/filler is shown) I think it is zooming to fill the display with the image (so no black bars/background appears). But when the image is similar to the display aspect ratio, it does seem to zoom a lot.
There is perhaps "more weirdness" for you to discover, but this is sooo much better than 26.x.... the transition from 18 > 26 was jarring and unwelcome for me.

For quite a while, this same person has insisted that because it's a way that Apple offers to update, that it should just work 100% fine and dandy, not taking into account that they're using a Windows machine to begin with... Everyone always points out the same "try this" or "why do this?" to them, and it's a fool's errand.. Just let them deal with using a Windows machine to try and manually update, even though they have other options.

PayPal and the Imgur apps are both working just fine for me on my iPhone 16 Pro Max, and through all of the Betas. I use PayPal often.
I used to use PayPal often but it refused to install when I upgraded my iPhone. So it’s never been installed on this phone. Maybe if I buy another one it will work again.
Should Apple offer methods of updating that don’t work? Weird spiteful take to be contrarian just for the sake of it. Sorry that I don’t use a Mac.
lol PayPal, they banned my account about 6 years ago for no reason, can’t even create a new one.
Have you tried making a new partition and installing a fresh windows build on it and testing apple devices that way? Can’t say I’ve ever had an issue with IPSW files on my pc. Tbf can’t say I’ve ever used apple devices either, iTunes has always been fine for me 🤷🏻

Seems odd to think buying a new phone would fix your problem. Maybe making an appointment at an Apple Genius Bar due to having a very specific niche issue, they can help you with this. Don’t apologize for using Windows. Sometimes I boot up a Windows VM and use it for some games and stuff.. Windows is still….Windows. TBH, I don’t expect much to work well on Windows, so anything installed from the Microsoft Store, IMO, is a YMMV situation. Not a Spiteful take when I’ve had my fair share of Windows issues over the last 25+ years to know that most “app issues” on Windows are actually “Windows issues”.
My install of windows was pretty fresh when Apple Devices was first introduced. I think it’s pretty well known that the application is problematic and temperamental - windows is not the issue here. Whatever the case, it decided to work today, at least the 2nd time around.
iTunes was much better however it conflicts with Apple Devices and removing one to revert to the other without losing data does not seem possible. I just use Apple Devices the few times a year it is necessary to update and pray it doesn’t randomly want to brick my devices in the process, like it almost did tonight.
I already spent hours on the phone with Apple support over this and they came to no conclusion or solution. What is the store going to do? They’re just going to suggest I wipe my device and try again - with no guarantees of that working, and that is alot of time that I really don’t have to lose. Remember that my device was already fully DFU restored immediately before the last time I attempted to reinstall all my apps.
The next time I will be installing apps on a fresh device will be when I buy another one, there is no reason for me to go through such a long and arduous process before then on the same exact phone, to end up with my device in the same exact state except it *might* have a PayPal app on it. Low priority, high investment, minimal to no return.

I’m glad it worked for you. I’m sorry for my catty replies earlier. But please don’t hesitate to update OTA! It is a proven and very widely-used method.
In what way does PayPal refuse to install? What's the exact error message or behavior you're getting when you try to do so? Can you attach a video of the issue?
There is no error message. In the App Store, the app shows a cloud icon indicating I have previously purchased it and may redownload it. Tapping the cloud icon results in it briefly spinning, and then returning to the cloud icon. These 2 particular apps never actually initiate the installation process. Any other app, cloud icon or not, has no problem installing.
In iOS 27 the duration of the circular spinning icon is actually much shorter than in iOS 26, but the result is the same.
