I had Office 2008 (upgraded from 2004) running happily on an older MacBook Pro with Mavericks then migrated to a new Mac Book Pro. After migration there Word, Excel and PP all got in an endless MS set up assistant loop and would not run. Couldn't reinstall from Office 2004 CDs as these aren't supported anymore. After much frustration solution is that migration assistant doesn't copy all the files from applications/Microsoft Office 2008/Office. Copy any missing files in this directory across to new machine, you make have to duplicate and rename back OfficePID.plist and SetupInfo.plist and should work. Hope this helps anyone who has similar issues.
