Just a note of my experience really. I backed up the iPhone 4 to iCloud so I could get the iPhone 4S fully up-and-running while still at work.
It all works like a dream... until it comes to try and install all the apps. The placeholders appear, but if any one app is no longer available, none can download. Downloading them manually erases the app's data, so you have to wait until you're back at your Mac to sync with iTunes.
Shame really, would've been a flawless experience otherwise!
