Not sure how exactly to categorise this:

When I plug my iPhone into my car, it realises it's connected to power and usually plays the current track automatically.

HOWEVER

It's become buggy, when I plug it in, it just keeps the music Paused until I press play on the Music.app

Anyone have any suggestions?

You can't do anything about it. I own a kenwood (don't remember the model) which worked like a charm with iPhone 4s on iOS 6. Played music and if i was using GPS it would turn down the music volume (still playing) so that you could hear the directions and then turn the music volume up again. Now with iOS 7 it's all buggy and sometimes i have to reconnect it, GPS is always silent when connected ecc ecc. I guess we'll have to buy a new radio.
