What is going on in this image, Photoshop seems to be able to adjust the levels without any distortion and give me a nice black and white image but Aperture is crap compared, everything just turns grey and a pure black, there are no gradual tones. I'm trying to get them to be the same but nothing I do works

I know both programs interpret the information differently but surely this isn't correct?

A seperate issue is one I've just discovered, but Aperture cannot read my colour images from my camera, anybody else had this issue?
