Hello,

I’m having an issue using the usb-c 10gbps port on my TS3 Plus. I can’t seem to get the full speed out of the port.

I’m plugging in a 2.5” 10gbps SSD enclosure, using the cable that came with it. When I plug it in to the 10gbps port on the TS3 plus it only connects at USB 2 speeds (480mbps).

I’ve tried the drive in a few other configurations and it works as expected in all of them (plugged in to the USB 3 ports on TS3 (5gbps), plugged in to the TB3 port on the dock (10gbps), plugged in to my MacBook direct (10gbps)) This is all using the same cable too.

I’ve attached a few screens shots to help illustrate what I’ve written here. 2 speed tests and the system profiler report when plugged in to the USB-C 10gbps port.

You can click on the USB 3.1 bus to verify that it's the ASM1142 XHCI USB controller that you are connecting to. What driver is being used for that bus?

Do you have any USB 3.x devices that do work with that USB-C port?

Do you have a USB 3.x hub to connect to that port? Then maybe the drive will connect at USB 3.x speed when connected to the hub?

Did you try the USB 3.0 port next to the USB-C port? It is also part of the ASM1142.

Do you have another Mac to test the TS3+ with?

You could try connecting the TS3+ to a PC and running a firmware updater for the ASM1142. It might not do anything or make both ports run at 10 Gbps or it might make the USB-A port not work. So make sure there's a method to get the old firmware.

This worked. I connected a USB-C 10gbps hub and it now connects at full speed. Only issue is it now ejects a lot of the time.

It's quite annoying too, as this is the hub I take on the go with me. Any idea why it is like this?

Edit: it ejects all of the time :/

I had issues with ejecting when devices were not receiving enough power. I believe the ports were putting out 4.5w. I overcame this by using a TB4 hub that provides 15w to each port, which is more then enough for any external drive. A less costly method that would achieve the same outcome would be to try a powered hub, in the event your hub is powered, perhaps one that can deliver more power.

Is the hub powered?
Try disabling sleep?

The hub is not powered. How come disabling sleep would make a difference? It's a MBP so I'm not sure how you do that. I don't really ever shut the lid, so it's just the display that sleeps normally. Thanks for your help on this!

That’s why you’re ejecting. Get a powered hub.
