Issue with Dropbox

I put some files on my Mac, and then in my Dropbox folder, hoping it will sync with my iPhone and iPad. But it doesn't. They are just normal documents and images. Is there something I'm doing that's wrong?

Have you made sure that they have finished syncing on your desktop computer to the cloud? You should see a green check mark.
