Hi All,

Has anyone had any similar problems with their 2016 13" MacBook Pro Touchbar? Mine has been functioning perfectly until this afternoon when the screen started going fuzzy and horizontal lines appeared.

The lines aren't disappearing and they continue to randomly multiply and flicker to the point whereby my machine is no longer usable. It looks a lot worse in realtime!

Am I right in thinking this is a graphics card issue?

Going to the Apple Store tomorrow to sort out, but am really disappointed. My old 2012 MacBook Pro had this problem and it took five 20-mile round trips to get resolved, so am hoping this time around it won't be such a problem.

Thanks!

Joe

Do you have warranty or insurance?

Oops! Just changed reference to the touchscreen haha.

It's now out of warranty, but European law applies so repairs such as this are free up to seven years. I just don't want the issue to become bigger than what it is like it did the last time!

Just wondering if I'm right about the graphics card being faulty.

Thanks!

there is no 7 years warranty,
max 2 years according to EU regulations, but only if you are first owner with original invoice or receipt

Pretty scary this is happening even on the integrated GPU.

So far, the current gen of MacBook Pro is affected by issues related to:

  • Keyboard
  • Battery
  • Staingate

Please don't tell me there's now a GPU issue.

I'll add TouchBar to the list, and more fragile body than before (already have bumps and paint going off despite being careful with it)

GPU glitches are not new though, it can happen in all computers.

Well I'm covered either way as I am the original owner and it was purchased in January 2017, but my last MacBook Pro to develop a similar issue was replaced after five years under an EU consumer directive after a fix could not be achieved. It's not something Apple like to honour, but you are usually entitled to a fix or replacement I believe.

I'm not even a heavy user, although I don't think it should be an issue if I was. Really frustrating though.

this website says Apple One (1) Year Limited Warranty – (UK and Ireland) For Apple Branded Products Only

it's a main topic, you claiming something without any proof

Oh dear. I’m afraid you’re referring to Apple’s warranty and not U.K. consumer rights. I’m not ‘claiming something without proof.’ I received a brand new MacBook Pro from Apple in 2015 when my old 2012 MacBook Pro could not be fixed.

Why are you so argumentative?

I am not sure of whatever the local consumer rights are, but my advice is to take the computer in ASAP to Apple to get it fixed.

I'd suggest contacting Apple Care via phone first, they can try to check and see what the issue may be, if it's software or hardware. If they can't identify the issue then taking it to the store would be likely their next direction.

Thanks Painter, I’ve actually got an appointment tomorrow and it will probably be taken away to be repaired for a few days.

Glad you got the conversation back on point!

I’m not. Link through to the thread on your desktop. Thanks very much.

OP (I'm going to ignore _Kiki_ here):

Ultimately, unless your computer has suffered any drops, or liquid damage (or other similar accidental misuse), you should be covered.

Take it to an Apple Store and have it looked at - you shouldn't have a problem :).
