I have an M5 MacBook Pro which is presently used mainly as a desktop with monitor.

I have a Caldigit Element 5 docking station which I have my monitor and an SSD in a Acasis TB501Pro enclosure.

The MacBook Pro is in a vertical stand and due to that I leave it connected to the docking station all the time and let it go into sleep otherwise I have to take it out of the stand to turn it on of I shut it down.

Firstly, not sure if the above is a good idea or should I be shutting it down?

Anyway, if I eject the SSD before it goes into sleep mode I have to unplug it and plug it back in to re-mount it which is a bit of a pain.
I read that you can re-mount the drive without unplugging it etc by selecting it in Disk Utility and choosing mount.
The issue is that I can see the drive, I click mount but it then disappears from the drive list and does not show/mount. So I have no other choice but to unplug it and plug it back in.

Is there a solution to this/what am I doing wrong?

Thanks 🙂

It shouldn't hurt to leave your MBP on the docking station, as long as it can sleep. There are maintenance scripts that run in the wee hours of the morning in sleep mode. If your MBP never sleeps, those maintenance scripts never run. It sounds like you do let it sleep, so that's good.

Theoretically, you should be able to mount drives from Disk Utility, but I've never had it work consistently, and have to physically unplug and plug, or reboot the Mac to get it to show.
