Hi,

I'm just trying to create a CCC copy to use with migration assistant on my new M1 MBP (I've been advised this is better than time Machine) however I'm having issues. My external SSD is formatted to mac OS extended but CCC says I must choose GUID partition and select APFS format in disk utility. When I go to disk utility and go to the erase options I only get this list

The external SSD is a Sandisk Extreme Pro.

If I use an old. external hard drive I get these options in disk utility

Can anyone explain why I'm only getting a limited number of formatting options with the SSD please? I'd have thought if anything it'd be the other way around as this is a much newer disk and is SSD which APFS is supposed to work better with.

I can obviously clone to the HDD but I'd rather use the SSD if possible as it'll be much faster.

EDIT: Ignore, I've just found that I can go to view and "Show all devices" which then brings up the other options.

Forget CCC. The last time I used it I ended up with totally incomplete copies that were supposedly done and a data recovery bill for the source a drive of $7300.

Looking through here I have seen a lot of other apps that people are saying handles the newer formats far better than CCC.

I've never had a problem with CCC over years of using it.
And as for a "data bill of 7300" ... you actually paid that....?
I have data going back to 1986 (available instantly)... but NONE of it is worth that much...
