Bought this machine for my parents in December 2015 (i5 with SSD). Everything had been going well. Tonight, while someone was playing Minecraft Story Mode, the display corrupted. I restarted the machine, and while things were improved, there was still some slight corruption...some parts of the screen were flickering, as if the refresh rate was set lower.

We gave it a break, unplugged the unit, then tried again. So far, so good. Does this sound like an issue of the processor overheating? Are there any tests I can run to check? Thanks.

Not being a gamer I do not know how intensive that game is, but it may be the cause of problems.

Doing an SMC reset was the right thing. If troubles persist, do another and remove the plug from the rear of the iMac for 15 minutes or so which seems to do a much better reset You could run Diagnostics over the machine. Will include a link in a moment.
