Hi,

I'm trying to setup my mac mail with my work email address and unfortunately it does not accept my details. This has been going on for a matter of months and even my IT specialist at work cannot help me. Does anyone know of anything that can help me to fix this? My Hotmail and Googlemail accounts both work but my university one is the only one I have an issue with.

Many thanks for any help

Fraser

That is almost no information to go by, but a guess would be that the user name should contain domain name. Either in the format of your email address or domain;username or domain\username (important to differentiate between \ and /). Domain may have to be all caps.

Every year new students arrive, so Your university should also have some kind of it-support homepage with guides and information plus supporters to help.

You could also ask another mac user for help and compare setup. Since there must be other mac users at your university.

I'm trying to picture a university that has never had to set up a Mac user's Mail email client. Perhaps they haven't heard of the company. Ask them!

Hi,

Apologies you are both right. I should of said more. I input my email ID, incoming and outgoing servers and after maybe 2 minutes it can not connect after trying the password. I have asked the building IT specialist and he can not figure out what the issue is, hence why trying on here. Again, I tried to setup as according to how a colleague has set up his one, and yet it does not work.

It is really hard for us to help, without know specific which university it is, because there is so many variables in mail-setup. The university must have a central it-department running the mail-servers. They must also have some kind of support. I have been part of such a department on a University my self. They are the experts and know the specifics about their setup. They can also check what is failing on the other. If the it-specialist you tell about is part of that department and cannot solve it himself, he should know where/who to ask for help and either get back to you or forward you to an expert which can help.

Mail is such a basic thing and the first thing to get up and running (after account+password creation), that it is the top-most guide on the it-support page of my old University. There is guides for a range of the most popular mail-clients including Mac Mail. Most can automatically receive the correct setup from the server, by just entering email-address+password. But the technically server info is also available, for manually setup. I find it hard to believe that something similar is not available at your university.
