Issues with Mac OS X and BT Home Hub 5?

Is anyone still having this problem? I have just bought a used 2010 MacBook Air 13" and cannot connect it to my BT Home Hub 5 for more than a few seconds before it drops the connection. It seems to prefer BTWifi-with-FON which it always reverts to. Checking my Hub settings I have devices connected to both 2.4GHz and 5GHz so I'm quite sure what to do. Did any of the above fixes work for some people?

I also asked on The Verge and people there said it's something to do with the current version of Mac OSX and not the router. Hopefully we'll get a fix soon. In the meantime, 2.4GHz is fine.

well it's now 2016 and still no fix! i have to disable and reenable wifi to connect...
