I was able to get my hands on an original Max X1900. Machine posts and boots but no video... any special drivers required?
When I put my Quadro 4500 video works fine

it’s on a 2005 Quad running a single DC cpu

No special drivers needed.

You may wish to update ATI drivers though. It comes with a system preference. Right now, I can't seem to find it.

That aside, are you using the actual G5 version of the X1900, or the Mac Pro version? The one for the MP will not work in the G5.

I may be wrong, but I believe the dividing line is 256MB (G5) vs 512mb (Mac Pro).

Beside that, the G5 one should come in a metal case, where (I think) the Intel one should come in a plastic white case.

It’s the G5 one. Don’t get any startup screen only chime and then fans turn down when is loads

Remove the card, clean the contacts with rubbing alcohol and a microfiber cloth, use a can of air to blow into the PCIe slot, and reseat it.

What happens when you reset the PRAM (Cmd + Opt + P + R at chime)?

Do you get anything when you hold down Opt at the chime?

Curious if you're replacing your Quadro FX 4500 for performance reasons or just for fun of using the other card?

Ah right, I use an FX 4500 in my quad too. About the best you can get in those models, and the only one with 512MB VRAM. Also just looks a lot cooler imo.

No change just a blank screen...computer does seem to boot though a fans get quiet

Try cleaning the contacts. Maybe it's a bad connection.
