Does anyone know of any good alternatives to iStat Menus and iPulse? Neither have been updated in several months and don't want to put money into app that could be on its way out or not updating with new OSs.

Neither have been updated in several months

That doesn't mean anything. App updates can be every few weeks to years. Some disk apps only needed to be updated if Apple does something like introducing a new file system. Given its iStats' popularity (you see it in YouTube videos all the time, lots of references on this website) I doubt that it is on its way out.

Update cycles for apps can vary greatly depending on the type of app, the functionality provided and the effect of Apple updates. I don't start to worry about an app being abandoned until it's been at least a year since the last update. iStat Menus continues to work as expected for me, other than it doesn't appear to show my AirPod Pros battery levels.

Yeah constant pointless updates of some (mostly iOS) apps sometimes gets on my nerves. I would much rather see less frequent updates that actually provides significant improvements, unless of course there is some serious bug that needs to be addressed. Anyway, iStat Menus is great and works without issues.

I use the freeware XRG utility.

If you look at the iStat Menus entry at MacUpdate, you'll see XRG in the "Apps you might also like" section.

I'm pretty sure that's how I found it years ago.

I have tried many iStats alternatives and none come close. Personally, I always feel like they are just failed mockups of iStats. iStats is the best by far with a lot of customization for the menu bar icons.
