A major new version of iStat Menus, a popular Mac system monitor for power users, has been released today for macOS High Sierra.

One of the biggest new features in iStat Menus 6 is configurable notifications for a wide range of events, based on CPU, GPU, memory, storage disks, networking, sensors, battery, power, and weather.

iStat Menus now has a Notification Center widget for CPU usage, memory, top CPU and memory processes, load averages, disk space, and uptime.

You can be notified, for instance, when your public IP has changed, if your internet connection is down, if CPU usage is above 60 percent for more than 10 seconds, or even of daylight saving time changes.

iStat Menus 6 features an all-new weather menu with the current temperature and conditions, hourly and weekly forecasts, notifications, and more. Weather-related notifications can be configured.

The update also introduces new ways to color and style the menu bar icons, dropdown menus, and graphs, including light and dark backgrounds.

Another key feature is hotkeys support for opening and closing dropdown menus using your keyboard, including time, CPU, GPU, memory, storage disks, networking, sensors, battery, power, and more.

Other changes include improved accessibility, localization, AirPods battery level support, dropdown menu reordering, automatic fan set switching based on events, and many other new features outlined in the version history.

iStat Menus is built into the macOS menu bar, providing power users with convenient access to system information, such as CPU and GPU usage, memory stats, fan speeds, temperatures, disk usage, and battery life.

iStat Menus 6 is available now for $18 on developer Bjango's website. Existing users with version 3.0 or later can upgrade for $9.99.

macOS High Sierra was publicly released on the Mac App Store today. iStat Menus 6 is also compatible with OS X El Capitan and macOS Sierra.

Evaluated 5.3, I'll try this update and it might be time to make a purchase.

I’ve been using the beta for a while. Nothing must-have in this release but the redesign is quite nice. Everything is more readable.

The most disappointing thing is you have to pay a few bucks yearly for Weather updates (which use Dark Sky). And the update is only for 60 min intervals. 15 min is 5.99. You get a free six months (of the 60 min) when you upgrade.

How much is 60-minute interval weather update? iStat's website is oddly devoid of such information.

Bummer about Dark Sky API. It has been very inaccurate in my area (SF - San Jose Bay Area, CA) for some time.

Yep, I'll be requesting a refund because of this. Makes no sense!

Pay to upgrade, again? No thanks

I'm guessing it was required to license the Dark Sky data? But yeah, pretty bizarre (and all the more reason to add other providers).
Dark sky is horrible. Was a fad for a few months, that fad is gone now

Not really upset about that, but rather the fact that they sold it as a full product and made ZERO mention of a subscription based model for part of that same application I paid for.

This is an instant-buy for me. Bjango has been an amazing develop and iStat Menus is essential for me. I use it as my quick calendar and date checker along with knowing which applications are chewing up CPU cycles w/o having to open Activity Monitor.

Most importantly, I'm so glad they didn't switch to a subscription model!!!!! Thank you Bjango

I paid $16 in 2010 for iStat Menus and in 2014, I paid $9.99 to upgrade to version 5 and now in 2017, I'm paying $9.99 to upgrade again. This is great. $36 for 7 years of an application that receives regular updates.

EDIT:
I'll add that I think a few weeks ago, they released a High Sierra Compatibility update for existing users. They're not forcing us to upgrade to keep using the application.

There's a $10 upgrade option.

Did you not notice the subscription options when you turned on the Weather? IIRC it's not on by default. They don't mention them on the website, though. Not good.

Well, they...kinda did.

How many of these can you get via Terminal and what are the commands? I'm aware of htop already. Anything similar for network?

Got it for free to start with (family licence) at Macheist back in the days.
Only payed for upgrades. This one too, right now. It's worth it.

The weather can be there, the free days, but lord I won't pay for that. Have better using Geektool.

Yes, I went with the upgrade as I've bought every prior iStat version. I've just got a personal preference not to purchase subscription based software. They should of made it clear that part of the application requires a subscription and I'd of gladly stayed quiet and stayed with the current version.
