So... I bought the upgrade from iStat 5, and didn't receive a serial number to upgrade. What am I missing?

*edit*

No sooner do I type, another email comes in with the serial. Whew!

The article says the upgrade is $9.99 but it's showing as $11.99 for me?

Weather prices are also more?

I'm in the UK and purchased v3, v4 and v5 serials.

The company issued me a refund and is very fast and responsive. While I personally don't like subscriptions I wish them the best.
What subscription? I don't like subscription either, but iStatMenu is no subscription.
You mean the free 6 months weather?
So don't renew it. Simple as that.

I’ve been using the beta for a while. Nothing must-have in this release but the redesign is quite nice. Everything is more readable.

The most disappointing thing is you have to pay a few bucks yearly for Weather updates (which use Dark Sky). And the update is only for 60 min intervals. 15 min is 5.99. You get a free six months (of the 60 min) when you upgrade.

The app says "Powered by Weather Underground". How do you know the weather subscription uses Dark Sky?

Interesting. I'm in the US. Maybe it varies depending on your location. Too bad you can't choose the source (though Dark Sky works for me.)

You're right! It depends on the location. Changing to Cupertino showed "Dark Sky". It makes sense: Dark Sky's radar coverage used for detailed (next hour) forecast covers USA and UK only for now.

Ability to view the AirPod battery level is a huge plus in something I requested if you months ago. Will happily pay the upgrade price to support this developer as I have been using the previous version of their app for years.

So you don't believe people should get paid for the work they do? Do you also work for free, or does your opinion only apply to others and not yourself?

I don't believe you should have to pay for an upgrade when all it is, is a fresh coat of paint, with a subscription model/Dark Sky weather API on top of it.......

There are a lot of new features that took work to implement. If you don't want them, stick to version 4. It got a compatibility update to High Sierra, so nobody's forcing you to upgrade.

It looks beautiful, it has some lovely new features, and it appears to really like to use the internet, even when weather is disabled. It is turning my Little Snitch icon into a light show. I do not like my Apps doing this, and it was my fault for not using the trial first. Back to version 5 I go!

I was using 5.X on macOS 10.12.6 and it automatically installed 6.0 (in truth, it probably asked me to update and I probably just said go ahead thinking it was just bug fixes). However, then it popped up a window saying it needed to install "some components" but that fails every time with the helpful message "an error occurred". So I had to download and re-install 5.X. Turned off automatic update check.

I am a istat menu user from the early days, i love it.
But, i dont need new features i am willing to pay, but dont call home ...
So i think i dont will upgrade for now, i dont use little snitch anymore, and i will not use it because of this app.

Upgraded. I use it on all my machines-- $10 to keep the developer going is a pittance.

I wish they hadn't included the weather module though. I guess they feel they need to keep adding features to justify the upgrade price, but weather requires pretty specialized presentation. So far, I find ForcastBar has the best presentation, but the actual weather accuracy is crap so it's pretty-but-wrong.

Was a huge MenuMeters fan until the original dev stopped working on it. Gave a few donations their way just to say thinks for a great tool. iStatMenu is the closest I could find. I know MM is being developed open source now, but I've moved on.

They posted this a few hours ago, i've always been impressed with this app, big improvements.
Thanks! Almost every aspect of the app got a rework in this version.

Not really upset about that, but rather the fact that they sold it as a full product and made ZERO mention of a subscription based model for part of that same application I paid for.
iStat Menus 6 includes a 14-day free trial, and 6 months of weather data is included in the initial purchase. We use premium data sources, and we have to pay for usage every time weather is fetched. There really isn’t an alternative in terms of weather data sources, if you’re after something free, high quality, global, and with a license that allows commercial use.

We have some more info on the topic here: https://bjango.com/help/istatmenus6/weather/

I'm guessing it was required to license the Dark Sky data? But yeah, pretty bizarre (and all the more reason to add other providers).
We’ll definitely consider adding other providers in the future. We’re using Weather Underground for some locations.

Yes, I went with the upgrade as I've bought every prior iStat version. I've just got a personal preference not to purchase subscription based software. They should of made it clear that part of the application requires a subscription and I'd of gladly stayed quiet and stayed with the current version.
I don’t like subscription software either. We pay for weather data fetching based on each request, so we wanted something that aligned with how we get charged. Please note that weather in iStat Menus is sold as data packs that cover 12 months — they never auto-renew and there is nothing to cancel, if you decide you do not want it any more. It’s a subtle difference, but I think it is an important one.

Great to hear. :) Thanks for your patience. There’s been some delays in the second emails (the important one with the license in it!).

The exact window you would have seen can be found here: https://bjango.com/help/istatmenus6/update/

Please redownload the latest build: http://download.bjango.com/istatmenus/

If that does not work, please get in contact via private message here, or via our website, or via Twitter (public or DM). Thanks!

Thank you! It is appreciated. As long as people keep buying it, we’ll keep making it.

What don’t you like about the way iStat Menus displays weather info? We’re always open to feedback, and want iStat Menus to be the best.

Does anyone have iStat Menu 6 reporting higher RAM usage than iStat Menu 5?
This is very likely due to the settings. Memory pressure vs traditional UNIX memory reporting, or “Hide inactive memory”. We added the ability to control what’s shown in the menubar per item. Here’s where the settings are now:
