iStat Menus CPU usage/Power Consumption

I has been a "SystemPal" user for 3 years til recently got a new 2018 MBP. The sensor read doesn't work correctly so I bought iStat Menus: it's popular and pretty.

iStat Menus is pretty and the information is extensive. But I noticed it's CPU usage and power consumption is really high as a utility software. Normally the "SystemPal" use ~0.2% CPU, while iStats Menu takes ~3%. I wish many functionalities could be turned off (seem not necessarily for monitoring purpose): e.g. the history log for every single sensor.

Any suggestion on alternatives or am I missing something?

A user in another Mac Forum reported problems with iStat Menus with overheating, however, his MacBook Pro is a 2013 model. It seems other users have likewise experienced the same thing. I have never had a problem running it on my last three iMacs. You might want to read thru the thread I mentioned. Here is the LINK.

Thanks for the info. I read through the thread and guess my issue is slightly different. Probably because of my OCD things I feel it took much CPU usage for a monitoring software (~3% and the avg. power consumption is higher than the Time Machine Backup task). That being said, its functionalities are really nice and comprehensive.

I would prefer a app that shows fan / temp / disk&net io/ cpu / mem info and takes a, say, 0.1% cpu usage like what "SystemPal" does. Sadly it had been abandoned and doesn't support new Macs.

From your screenshot it is actually using less cpu % than activity monitor....and providing a great deal more information..........:)

:) True, however for an app runs all the time I wish it could be better.

I also noticed the high CPU usage and opted to not run it all the time. I'm currently using Macs Fan Control to keep an eye on CPU temp and fan speed. It's CPU usage is always usually around 0.2-0.3% which is very minimal. I think that iStats has some work to do to get that CPU usage down if they want people to use it on an every day - always on basis.
