Er, what? What level of customer service should you expect when their product is free?
Because it's free you get no customer service? They have paid apps and the free ones are surely a shop window for their paid stuff. If they treat their customers with disdain, yes you are still a customer even if the price was free, they don't deserve my money. Going off their documented track record if something breaks they won't fix it but will charge you again for a functioning version.

Don't forget they have been stringing people along for months saying be patient, the fix is just around the corner. I would feel a lot better if 6 months ago they just said sorry we will have to put a lot of work in to resolve this and will be charging for a fixed version.

No thanks, there are other companies that are more deserving.

Not necessarily, but since it's free you're certainly not entitled to any customer service, which seems to be your mentality.

It's well within their rights to charge you for a service or product. That's kind of how businesses make profits and stay in business.

I guess there's something to be said for doing a better job at PR, but remember... you didn't actually pay them to do that either.

Deserving of...? Your theoretical approval? Since you haven't actually lost any money using iStat, I'm not sure what grounds you have for complaining.

Fair enough, next time gmail, twitter or DNS goes down I'll be sure to keep my mouth shut. Wouldn't dare complain seeing as they are free services.

$10 isn't bad for what it does. I updated and played with it for a couple of days and decided to reward the developers for their work. Would be nice if they had kept a lite version that was still free though.

Hi all,

Firstly, a big thank you to anyone who's used iStat Menus or any of our apps. When we started creating software under the iSlayer name, we didn't expect the amazing response to iStat Pro and iStat Menus. We were really happy that lots of people used our software. We still are. Yes, even those who haven't donated. It's a real buzz to see your app in someone's screenshot online or to hear people talking about your app positively.

We love great software, so that's what we aspire to create, no matter what the reward.

In Feb 2009 we changed our name and quit our day jobs as we worked really hard on some iPhone apps. We're now in a situation where we have a great little business, including a full-time staff member who takes care of our support. That includes people emailing about our free apps. We try to answer everyone's questions as well and as quickly as possible.

It's taken a lot of work to get to this point though. The two main developers at Bjango (myself and another guy) work 15+ hours most days. It doesn't feel like work, because we enjoy it.

Anyway, I won't ramble on about our history too much more. If you'd like to read about it and the change to a paid app for iStat Menus, it's all here: http://bjango.com/help/istatmenus/history/

It's also worth noting that we spent months on iStat Menus 3, ensuring that it was head and shoulders above iStat Menus 2. We knew moving to a paid app meant that the upgrade had to be significant. I believe it is. If you'd like to know what's new, please read this: http://bjango.com/help/istatmenus/whatsnew/

Thanks for listening,

Marc Edwards,
Lead Designer and Director, Bjango.

You guys are from Australia? I might buy iStat menus 3 now because of that.

I'm very happy with iStat 3 and have it installed on all my Macs.

Thanks for the great product; it was worth every cent. The 5-pack is an excellent deal and I applaud that.

well i upgraded to snow leopard and now my version of 1.3 didnt want to work so I had to unistall it and then dl 3.01, after setting it up its seems very similar to 1.3 was. It does have a nicer user configurations set up but i liked the minimal look on my top bar so for me all the extra graphics are not needed. kind of sucks that my version of 1.3 didnt work and now i have to pay for 3.01 :(

I've been using iStat menu for about 3 years now. Love it. I had no hesitation in buying iStat Menu 3 and am happily using it.

How can I pay, if I don't have a credit card or PayPal? I'm currently residing in Germany, if that matters.

Sorry, but we only have those payment methods available. Please PM me your name and email address... I'll give you a free license (and before everyone else asks, sorry, I can't offer this to the entire thread!).

You guys make it almost too easy. Someone pops a window up on your screen, and you click to pay as if it were mandatory.

I was actually going to donate; then found there was an update; then found it was $18 of the family pack. Would have donated that much anyways. :p

iStat Menus 3 - seems to disable email accounts

I purchased the family pack as I have three Macs. After installing it, I found that two out of my three email accounts in Mail were disabled. Perplexed, I re-enabled them only to find once the machines restarted and entered mail, the accounts were disabled again. This happened on all three computers.

I uninstalled it from one and made sure not to run the other two (due to mail account sync) and found the email accounts remained. Re-installed and at first the accounts seemed to remain but then this morning they were disabled again. Also, my default signature was not available.

I uninstalled iStat Menus 3 again and re set up the accounts and the signature and seems to be working now.

I will keep an eye on it to see if there is some correlation between iStat and the email accounts being disabled.

Has anyone else had this issue?

Thanks

I used iStat menus after magicmenu meters stopped working as the two are basically identical in function. I do not mind paying for these little apps(they're generally very cheap and worth it) however in the last few days iStat menus has been showing me the popup to remind me that version 3 is a paid application now, this popup happens regardless of which option I pick until I've disabled the update checker entirely. It's a little annoying and something that would has really put me off upgrading regardless of the features.

Is the fan control working for everyone with the new 3.0 version? With the MBP in my signature, it stays at the default 2000 rpm setting even when I change the minimum speed to 3000 rpm...

I didn't bother with iStat Menus 2, but 3 is amazing. It completely replaces smc, lets me hide the undeniably inferior OSX Date & Time, Battery, and Airport displays, adds great functionality that isn't found in other apps I'm aware of, and it looks fantastic to boot. I'm still running the trial, but I do plan to buy it after my trial expires. Did I mention it's ubersexy?

The fan control works fine for me on a mid-2009 MBP17, btw.

Like many here, I'll be buying this app once the trial expires. Easily my favorite utility for OSX.

Before putting down the money, I'd like to be certain if there are any places online that's selling this program as part of a bundle with other programs?

I just purchased version 3 a few minutes ago using paypal. I believe that developers should be rewarded for their efforts as long as I find the price is reasonable, which I thought this was.

Thank you. Really glad you like it.

At this point, there's no discounts and iStat Menus 3 isn't part of any bundles.

Thanks. Really appreciate the support.
