Makes me think that Apple stopped manufacturing the gsm only version and now its just a "here is a phone what's your provider?" Much better way to do business imo
 
While my local Apple stores only show the sim free as available, quite a few stores in the neighboring states show AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile and Verizon models in stock.
 
Although there looks to be stock of SIM-free iPhone 7s, there are zero SIM-free iPhone 7+s available.

I don't check every day, but when I have checked I've NEVER seen a 7+ in stock at any of the 3 Apple stores in Oregon.
