The other day I came across my old Nokia N80 mobile which, amazingly, has a battery that still takes a charge. For fun, I decided to see if iSync would still work with it - in fact, I had to double check if Leopard actually had iSync!
The bluetooth assistant paired with the N80 faultlessly and once added to iSync, I smiled as it was added complete with a dedicated icon :)
Hard to appreciate now, but these things were so magical 10 or so years ago...

Awesome! I have not had a phone like that since about 2009. Didn't start keeping them when done with them till 2 years ago. Do you use Android at all? I'm still trying to find a solution to transfer files onto my phone via USB cable on PowerPC. Android File Transfer works on Intel, bit I have never found a PowerPC alternative.

I do have a Sony Android but the main connection I've made was using it as a wifi hotspot (pretty cool with OS9)
Thinking about it I used to use Total Commander on Android to allow transfers via wifi - give that a go.

In the garage, I still have our original phones from 1999 (Samsungs) and our Sanyo Katanas. ;)

As to an app for PowerPC, you're looking for Eltima Syncmate 3.6

The link is to an archived version. Eltima stopped supporting SyncMate for 10.5 and PowerPC a long time ago.

No idea if it will work with more current Androids.

PS. That's @Dronecatcher 's own link from a different thread. :)

I'll try it out, thanks! I have a 2017 Motorola Z2 Play with Android 8. I'll report back when I have a chance to use it on my PB G4. Just downloaded it.

I remember trying my best to make a Samsung Shark 2 work with iSync, wouldn’t work unfortunately. Maybe I did something wrong? But I think it was a lovely concept.

Back then there were third party plugins floating around in bring more devices to iSync.

Yeah I remember, I couldn’t find one for my phone, I think it was just a very rare phone. I didn’t think of it then, but I might have been able to use a plug in from a similar phone.

iSync.
only yesterday it seems.
sony ericsson k800.
and days of t9 input.

thanks for the memory of this.

When Symbian phones ruled the world ;) I loved that OS.

I use a Nokia N8 for day-to-day reliance, and it works pretty well. It's a good camera, music player, and phone in one. Has a nice torpedo shape...

It's especially usable if it's flashed to Belle Delight 6.6, a fast, custom up-to-date firmware maintained by the community to keep the later Symbian devices chugging.

Not a bad job for a couple of enthusiasts, if you ask me. It makes a long-abandoned 2010 device able to hold its own in 2019. It's a testament to the power of community efforts.

...Now where have I heard that before...

;)

Ahhh the E62. Mine was stolen about two years after I bought it. I loved its full keyboard tactility and Blackberry support.

For me, the E90 is the thing due to its huge screen. I really like the E61 and E71 too, though.

What OS did Sony-Ericsson use around 2004? That was pretty good from my memory.

A proprietary one powered their feature phones; their Symbian OS phones ran the touchscreen-centric UIQ platform, as opposed to S60 which was used by Nokia and a few licensees.

From memory, I had these Symbian phones: 9110i, 9210, 9300, E61i, E71, E72, 7650, N80, N95, N93i, N92, N-Gage, 7280..I'm sure there were others too - it was a great time for mobile tech and Symbian.
Wow, that's a great list including three Communicators (always loved those heavy-duty machines). I have to admit that I haven't owned any Symbian phones while they were still "a thing". My first smartphone was an iPhone 3G. The collection shown earlier was assembled over the past few months due to me having been hit by a Symbian bug. :)

Of course, forgot about that - I had a Sony Ericsson W910i running it :)

P800 (UIQ 2.0) and W960i (UIQ 3.1) here :) I'll say I somehow prefer 2.x over 3.x, perhaps due to the more Palm-OS-like UI the earlier version had. The P800 made for a great PDA if the keypad was removed.

Another cool thing about Symbian is you could get emulators for pretty much every version. There was even a lesser-known version that had the old Psion UI running on top of Symbian :)

My current phone depth chart if you will...

1 - Motorola Z2 Play (SD 626/3GB/32GB/64GB mSD/5.5" AMOLED/Oreo)
2 - Motorola Z Play Droid (SD 625/3GB/32GB/5.5" AMOLED/Oreo)
3 - Vernee Thor Plus (MT6753/3GB/32GB/5.5" AMOLED/Nougat)

I like the mid-range, because you get the most bang for your buck there. Also, Motorola and Vernee both use a very very stock version of Android, with only minor enhancements. I simply can't use a heavily skinned Android like Samsung.

As you can tell... they are all very similar in spec. I know what I like, but I also like having more than one. Every couple months I put my sim in the Vernee or the Z Play for a couple days just to switch things up a little.

I doubt any of these will work with iSync though. But I guess with the built-in cloud backup of Android it isn't even needed.
