Apple touted one of the features of the iPhone 6/6+ and I clearly remember one of them being the scaling of apps and how they "just work" and adapt to the new screens. Having a 6 for a couple of days now, I've noticed apps just don't work and are blurry. For example, WhatsApp on 6 is terrible can't imagine how it is on the plus. Is this going to be iPhone 5 all over again when we have apps of different sizes until a few years down the road? I think this is one a major disappointment for me. Apart from the extensions and third party keyboards being crap.

The text and layouts automatically resized, but the developer must resize the images. One of the consequences of changing the resolution. Same thing happened with the iPhone 4.

It sucks because the Apple apps look great compared to third party apps. Looking at the rate we're going, Apps won't be updated till iOS 9

A few years? How would it take a few years, in not even a couple of months over hundreds of thousands of apps will have probably been recompiled for the new A8 in the new iPhones and the new screen resolutions surely by then

Thousands of apps by the week are getting updated

Hmm I guess it wouldn't be as easy as using a tool to resize all images and repack the whole application. Just give it some time, devs will roll out what you want sooner or later :)

But seriously, I feel like optimization for iPhone 5 took a while. Hope it's not the same with iPhone 6/6+

I don't have an iPhone 6 or 6 plus yet, but I do have a small handful of apps that I use on my 5s that haven't been updated since iOS 5.

Most of the popular apps will be updated in the first few months. Developers need to submit their changes and then Apple has to approve them. I'm guessing they've got a bit of a backlog right now.

9 days out and no Whatsapp support. Let's cause a ruckus.

the whatsapp team is always slow as ... i think it took them over two months to update the keyboard for ios 7

I had to move over to Telegram during the iOS8 beta and have found I like it much better. Hello desktop access! But it's hard to get people to switch. Get the OP's frustration but it seems his ire is with Devs. WhatsApp has always been a bit slow in fixes & updates. It'll come eventually though. I wouldn't mind if a UI refresh came with it.

Only people to blame are the app devs. Xcode 6, was available to all devs back in June along with iOS 8 and an iOS 8 simulator to test them on. As for your comment about Apple saying "they just work" they do work. Just because a lazy dev is being lazy at updating is no fault of Apple's

And? Not many developers are going to spend resources developing for a phone's screen size that wasn't made public until 2 weeks before release. Most devs want an actual device to test on not just the simulater. The SDK did not provide the screen size information and releasing an app to take advantage of an unknown screen size without one bit of testing would be pretty dangerous from the dev's point of view.

They "work", just not very pretty.

Updates are so slooow in coming.

No.. not all the devs fault. Apple suggested that apps that apps don't need to be properly optimized. If apps are currently running their iPhone 5 version they will be appropriately scaled. Sure, they're scaled...but the quality sucks. If that's what they mean then, no thanks.

What did Apple say that suggested that? They said the apps "just work". The apps work just fine. I haven't seen one not work because of the screen size.

I am seriously thinking about leaving WhatsApp as it is own by Facebook, but the main issue is exactly what you described that not many contacts are even considering it.

With iOS 8 I got rid of the Facebook App, as it had many bugs and the Messaging feature was disabled some updates ago. Now I just access it via the browser. Another difficult thing to have people move away from.

Umm...are we twins separated at birth? lol. I also deleted my FB app and just use the web browser that I have a home screen bookmark for. + you can still access your messages from there. I find that since I'm not getting notifications anymore from the app, I check it far less, which I like.

I got really annoyed with their constant updates but never told me what the heck they were updating. Just they were doing updates every 4 weeks.

I find that most apps work but it's slightly annoying when you look at the giant top bar. Some apps have it so blown up that it looks funny. I can live with it. I expect developers to update apps for ios8 and iphone 6/6+s soon.

I agree with you completely. While it is annoying I'm sure it is going to be updated in the coming months, but this blown-up app interface is not appealing.

They have to be optimized for iPhone 5 at least.

Facebook doesn't even care about Whatsapp, given that it competes with its other messaging app. Facebook would rather everyone use the Facebook Messenger App.
