Why is this not an issue on Android then?

On Android it warns you when you enable a 3rd party keyboard that it could collect your keypress data. Of course on Android the app has to explicitly say it needs internet access in the app's permissions. So if it doesn't have that permission, it could send the data anyway.

That you know of. Of course a respectful company like SwiftKey would look horrible doing this. Let me ask you something. Has anyone in your family ever gotten food poisoning? Does that mean it's not possible?

But does that mean if it is possible to get food poisoning, we shall not eat? If there is a risk of car accident, then we shall not drive.

Yes, there is possibilities of software developer logs your keystroke, but that doesn't mean we should not get it at all.

I think your missing the point. A guy made a point of key logging, and another guy dismissed it as fanboyism. Get the context please.

SwiftKey is OK. I've used it for the past two years and really didn't see the need for it. I've used iPhones since 2007, and you just get used to having to type with the keyboard they give you. Now I'm using a Windows Phone, and I love it because the keyboard is just basic again.

Gesture control is good when you know what you're going to type. But I tend to figure out my words on the spot, so typing is faster.

Wow! Obviously too much choice is not a problem here!

Yes. Of course, too much choice can be a bad thing. I'm sure Apple would find a good middle area though.

He... Actually has a point...

I cannot really AT ALL see that this keyboard matter of choice can put one single person of experiencibg too much choice and that can be a bad thing. This cannot be taken seriously - you are being ironical, aren't you - or you're kidding!?

SwiftKey is one of the popular keyboard alternative available on Android and BlackBerry 10 keyboard is based on SwiftKey. As Android 4.1, Google also improved its keyboard with better autocorrect and prediction, especially the gesture typing capability. As both Android and iOS users with Nexus 4, Nexus 7, 2 iPad Mini, iPad 3, iPhone and iPod Touch 5G, I really hope Apple could bring some short of gesture typing on iOS. Gesture typing is awesome on one hand use and it is way faster than typing.

While, SwiftKey also capable of gesture typing, the new compact mode is awesome for devices with bigger screen.

I am not sure many of you guys used SwiftKey or Android default keyboard or not, after used them, I really cannot go back. This is also a reason I am keeping Nexus 4 and Nexus 7 as my primary devices when web browsing and messaging.

Maybe when next year, when Apple introduce bigger iPhone, Apple will bring some short of gesture typing.

P.S. I am using a keyboard cover, as I am using my iPad, I do wish I could use mouse as well... This will be awesome when gaming.... I hate controller....

Well, it's great but they have to have some features for iOS 8, 9 etc. not release all the top features in iOS 7. Plus they still have to perfect iOS 7 before releasing new features with bugginess. Just my humble 10 cent opinion

Uh too much choice leads to confusion. It leads to hate. Take the font on iOS 7. It's thin by default. You can bold it. But people say it sucks because it bolds unnecessary things. Ok, you can also change the size. The. People say Apple should of done something more... Yada yada. This is one case where Apple nailed it, but they can't catch a break.. You follow me?

If too many choices lead to issues then there are much deeper and bigger issues in play there.

No doubt. But will Apple sacrifice their walled garden approach for a new keyboard... Doubt it.

Any option available is welcome, but in my opinion swipe is just useless (tried on a couple of Samsung phones).

Everyone is going to have a different preference on their keyboard. Some like the gesture typing of Swype. Some have different preferences in keyboard layouts. Right now, there is no official standard for a smartphone keyboard. Apple has their own design. There are different designs and features of keyboards on Android phones from different device manufacturers and developers. Windows phone has its own keyboard design as well.

Options are good as many Android users take advantage of third party keyboards. If you are satisfied with the default keyboard on your Android device, then you won't be looking for alternate keyboards. The option is only there if you want it. It's not like you are force to choose between dozens of keyboards before you start using an Android phone.

Not sure where all this hate for options is coming from. For the font example, if you liked the font as is, then you wouldn't change it and then complain it sucks. It would have to not be satisfactory for someone to want to change it. People may change it out of curiosity. If they don't like it, they can always change it back.

Likewise, if you try some alternative keyboards and don't like it, you can always change it back. Many of the third party keyboards for Android has a free trial. I don't see any harm in offering alternative keyboards.

I don't know if Apple will go to lengths to offer the option of selecting a third party keyboard. There are many default functions on an iPhone that Apple chooses not to allow users to change. For instance, Apple does not allow you to change the default browser. Should Apple choose to allow users more options in iOS, they can start on other things as well. I haven't seen anything that would indicate that Apple will likely do that. I think iOS users who want to change their keyboard are going to be out of luck for the foreseeable future.
