That applies not only to the new MBA, but to all Apple laptops.

I use ClickToFlash in Safari myself, so _if_ you want to see something that needs flash, you can just click on it and don't need a second browser.

True. Personally, I find that most meaningful flash content is video content. So I just use some safari plugins to force HTML5 video. I don't need flash at all for advertisements or games.

Which ones do you use? Just got a new MBA and before I actually install Flash maybe I'll try these out to see if they do the trick. A quick search seems to point me to FlashToHTML5 and YouTube5. Are you using these or something else?

Thanks.

Just fire up Chrome when you need Flash.

I already have Chrome and use it most but not all of the time. So I'm interested in case I happen to be using Safari and would rather just go to the page from there instead of having to start up another browser. Too lazy to do the several extra clicks and all that.

My mac air had increased battery hours when I used clicktoflash, so I thought flash was a big issue in battery life. Is it possible for flash to be running even when I am not using safari or chrome? Recently, I was watching a movie with no chrome/safari out, and the battery was draining at a speed similar to when I didn't have the clicktoflash installed. This is in comparison to the first time I installed clicktoflash where I could watch a 1.5-2hr movie with a 25% loss. With the recent situation, I lost like 15% from only watching a half hour of a movie. This leads me to wonder if flash can still run even if safari isnt open. clicktoflash is a safari plugin so i wasnt sure if it only disables flash when I use safari or if it disables flash all the time.

YouTube5 and Hockey.264 (NHL.com Videos in HTML5)

This is what I use.

Here's a link to Apple's page on notebook batteries:

Two weeks is a bit more than the recommended monthly charge/ discharge, but it does keep the battery moving, which is a good thing.

Personally, unless I'm doing something really demanding (like gaming), I use my laptop like I use my iOS devices: untethered.

Interesting. I'm inclined to do the same, but for some reason psychologically I feel the need to baby my MBA's battery more than the battery on my iOS devices. How long have you had your MBA and how's the battery health?

I've had the computer for just over 2 weeks.

Have you always used your Macbooks untethered like your iOS devices? More curious how that holds up long term. Seems your battery would be shot fairly quickly (meaning 2-3 years as opposed to, say, 4-5).

This is my first Mac laptop. My wife has a 2010 MBP that she uses much in the same way, and it still holds a decent charge (probably 3-4 hours).

In any case, I'm not going to constantly obsess over it. I'm going to enjoy it for now and in 2-3 years, I'll either replace the battery or the entire computer.

I agree, you can buy a new battery for under $100 and it's honestly not very difficult to replace an MBA battery. Remove the bottom screws and 5 screws holding the battery in. Takes 15 minutes tops and I get to enjoy my laptop the way it was meant to be used without having to baby it.

I am very sure you are not running any of the apps below:

Little Snitch
Launch Bar
Xtrafinder
TotalFinder
Postbox
Hazel
VMWare Fusion (occasionally)
pathfinder

I use all of them with the exception of Vmware (rarely use once in a week) and have NOT been able to go beyond 6.5 hours on 11' i5,2013, 8GB RAM, 512 SSD

Yeah i also watch netflix (silverlight HD) and flash many times on it, so i know thats a battery killer, but even w/o it, it no way in hell performs more than 7.5 hours ==> so retest your numbers with these apps and then we will see how good your i7 is :)

Don't be so sure. ;) I use Xtrafinder and VMWare all the time.

Edit: I'm not really sure what you're getting at. That heavy usage == lower battery time? I don't think anyone's disputing that.

all these high battery numbers are making me jelly. I am using a 2012 air and the battery life is pretty good but no where near what these 2013 are getting.

do you really need to be running all those housekeeping apps? paid apps i might add. if you run more applications, your power demands will be higher and your battery will deplete faster.

If you're using it on AC all the time, why buy a notebook?

IF you burn the battery out, you can go back to using it on AC all the time then?

Just use the machine, and stop worrying about battery cycles :)

Just got a 2013 i7 11" mba last week to replace my 2011 i5 13" mba. I was able to get through a 12 hour work day with the old machine by just using some simple power conservation tricks.

Have not done any testing of the new 11" mba, but it's obvious that the battery life is better. I had both machines side by side and unplugged while I was setting them up and watched the battery capacity drop faster on the 2011 model, which I had to plug in more often than the new one.

I know that the 13" model is supposed to be even better, but the new 11" is clearly a nice upgrade from my old mba. :)

My battery life has been between 11 and 14 hours depending on usage. Quite astounding really...

Just a side note: I've had my new Air for just over a week now and I put coconutBattery on it after a few days...when I opened it, it read "Age of your Mac: 0 weeks" I've never seen that before...the least I've seen was with my 2010 MBP that read "4 weeks"
It must have been made just days before I got it...it now reads "1 week"
