It Will not let me show Battery in Menubar

everytime i go to System Preference > Energy Saver > Options
and tick show battery status in menu bar it doesn't work
Please help

Im using an Early 2008 Apple Macbook with Mac OS X 10.5.6

did you try repairing permissions with Onyx? does it help?

I have and it hasn't worked

I tried going system > library > CoreServices > Menu extras
and trying to open up battery.menu it does not appear in the menu bar
