Hi there.

Now I've done a little research but I have yet to find anyone else with my problem. I have a MacBook Pro 17" and it will not boot up. Here's the specifics...

I can turn on the system, I hear the Apple bootup chime, see the grey screen and nothing happens. I've tried all the bootup commands and the only ones I get a response from are the Option key and Cmd+Opt+P+R. Pressing the Option key normally shows the startup drives, well in my case the mouse did show up, but there were no startup drives. The only other bootup command that works was zapping the PRAM which just restarted the system. I've tried putting in system disc, but it will not boot or recognize a CD. In fact, to get the CD out, I had to turn off the system and turn it back hold + hold the eject button. I had to do it a couple times too before it would actually eject.

Any ideas?

Sounds like a dead hard drive if it doesn't show up in the boot loader.

You still don't get the DVD to appear after holding down Option?

The macbook pro was given to me, but it didn't have the discs. So I was using my "MacBook" CDs, but I think those are not working because they are for the MacBook. Not sure though.

I'm going to borrow a DVD later today to see if that will work. Let me know if you guys have any other ideas as to what it can be. Definitely not the logic board right?

You can contact AppleCare and request a set of replacement restore discs for $16 a piece or bring it into an Apple Retail Store to see if they can boot to any system disc for that matter.
