Iten won't delete from trash

I have recently moved to and iMac. i am all set up with the latest OSX. I have recently plugged in my external HDD with mostly AVI's on. How ever when i try ad delete stuff from the HDD they won't remove from the trash. They disappear when the HDD are switched off but come back when they are turned on. I have NTFS for mac OSX so i can read write the HDD's but what ever i try they won't delete from the trash.

is there a way of getting them to delete?
