for what it's worth... i use mywi after trying both it and tetherme, mywi is much better. It doesn't just stop transmitting data after a brief while. so, i've stopped using tetherme and am using mywi solely.

Thanks for the answer. What do you mean about stop transmitting data? Is this a known issue with tetherme?

Im in the same boat between these two apps!

Im confused as the tether me lets your Ipad hook up Via Bluetooth? and then basically its using your phone as a WI-FI hotspot? How is the speed of tether me on the ipad!

Also if using MyWi does it also hook up like bluetooth (i dont think it does) and your phone is a Wi-fi hotspot when on for the Ipad.

So Still which one is the better of the two?

Great questions, just wanted to bump this up. I am looking at getting my first iPhone, allready have a WiFi ipad (1st Gen) and would like to use the #g on the iPhone for access from time to time. Also trying to decide between AT&T and Verizon.

So if i understand this i can use the Verizon iPhone as a hotspot without needing to JB.

I downloaded the trial of MyWi on demand and like the fact that it turns off sharing when you're in a wifi zone vs. when I'm on the road.

Does Tetherme or iTethering offer the same or similar feature?

Thanks

Both AT&T and Verizon have the ability to tether as a hotspot without needing to JB. This requires you to opt into extra their respective mobile tethering plans for an extra monthly cost.

Both AT&T and Verizon iPhones can be JB'n, can then install TetherMe to unlock the stock hotspot tethering ability without having to opt into a mobile tethering plan on the respective carriers.

A lot to thank about here, I am in the market for an iPhone, still trying to decide between AT&T and Verizon. Looks like it would be about $100 bucks a month with minutes, texting, data and ability to hot spot. I could save some by JB, I would only need the ability to hot spot when I want to tether my iPad.

As of iOS 4.3.1 on iPad, you no longer need iTether installed on the iPad in order to do Bluetooth tethering, as the stock Bluetooth stack in iOS now supports it.

I've been using mywi since it was released and on demand is by far the best solution for use with an iPad. I have been doing about 3 to 4 gig a month and just got the message. I called and played dumb and was told that if I tether agains I'll get another message indicating that my plan would change. I need to tether so since then I've been using pdanet since they just introduced stealth mode but it's no where near as good as mywi or any of the other solutions since it uses adhoc and requires special desktop app for USB tethering. I'm hoping mywi introduces same stealth mode. I really dont think that they are just looking at usage. They might use usage as the initial flag but once they Id the account they might use another method to determine. I can't see them accusing users without some kind of proof to fall back on.

Do you know how the stealth mode is implemented in pdanet? Are they just altering the packet TTL?

Only the developer of PDANet knows what stealth mode does and if they are smart, they won't divulge this information to anyone.

There is little point in hiding it. ATT can just sniff the packets and see what's been altered. I'm just curious for my own information.
