I just had an thought. The iPhone is selling huge volumes, and a lot of people are switching to AT&T because of it.

So far at least 500,000 people. All of them have unlimited data. Maybe this is why it has been limited to EDGE, to stop strain on the network?

But still, 500,000 users on EDGE is probably putting a considerable amount of strain on the network anyway?

    Your thoughts?

I hope thats not the case seeing that Apple has a goal of selling 10 mil of them by the end of 2008.

Well, isn't this why AT&T has been purportedly re-enforcing their network? Boosting performance or whatnot? I'm really not savvy w/ this sort of technical stuff. But I thought that that's what has been reported of late...

I think that was a just a random number(with no facts backing it up, and being used to show a point)...and seeing how Apple plans to sell 10M iPhone by the end of '08...thats over a year away.

As for this being the reason Apple isn't using 3G, kind of doubt it. I'd bet its because of size, price and battery life.

I would be interested to know just how much the AT&T market share has went up.

Not much :( it was at 40.17 before the 29th and peaked at 41.85 on the second.

Yep, but lets just hope they can keep up with it as the millions join the network. The increased speeds seen in some areas recently will slow due to traffic eventually.

    You're right, a 1.68% jump IN THREE DAYS isn't much.
