Unfortunately, it seems that 1.1.3 broke iToner again.

The ringtones that I installed with the app are still listed on the phone, but I get total silence when trying to play them.

The application itself still works perfectly. Both syncing and removing ringtones still work as they used to, but the 'tones simply won't play.

Yep, I get the same thing. Tried using .mp3 and .m4a files but no dice. Files copied but they are silent when I try to play them on the phone. :(

Back to Marimba.

You don't need it. Get ilife 2008 and then Garageband is all you need for ringtones. I've created ringtones from mp3 and midi files and they work great and survived the 1.1.3 update with no issues.

I got it to work by changing m4a files to m4r and then syncing with iToner.

TEG
Changing it to m4r did the trick. :D

For those wanting to use iTunes to make their ringtones, I also found this useful post on another forum for trimming your songs in iTunes:

Don't forget you can trim tracks in iTunes itself...

Do a "get info" on the track in question and go to the "Options" tab and use the "Start time" and "Stop Time" fields to confine Playback between these two points - this method is non-destructive.

If you want to permanently "crop" the track, you can (with the track selected) go to the "Advanced" menu and select "Convert Selection to..."

This will create a "cropped" copy of the track.

My brother does this to trim files for use as MP3 ringtones on his mobile phone.

Hope that helps.
