iPod touch Itouch Randomly turns off, won't turn back on

Okay, so I was using my itouch in the morning, and when I came back it had turned off. The battery had been charged, so it wasn't that. Last time this happened, I let it sit for a few days (like I had read online), but it wouldn't turn on. I found that when i plugged it into my ihome and played "listen" it finally turned on.
However, this isn't working now, and i am missing my news and music. What else can I do? Should I just bring it to the store ? I got it on christmas dec 25, 2009, so the warranty is gone. will they give me a new one?

What's an Itouch?

Have you tried plugging your iPod touch into your computer? You may be able to restore it with iTunes depending on what's wrong with it.

already did. the computer does not even recognize that the device is plugged it.
