iPod touch Itouch will not go back to Homepage

My itouch will not go back to the home page from any app or setting. I click or doubleclick on the button at the bottom, but it no longer works. Any suggestions?

Have you continued pressing the Home button? It usually takes a few times to go to homepage. Could you be specific about your iTouch? Age, Generation, and when the problem started.
