I'm sure Apple wants people to use the app library or search or whatever, but this is the one thing that still bugs me about iOS. Look at all this wasted space. Even without changing anything they could easily add two rows of icons here. swiping to get to additional pages in folders is maddening.

This has been an issue since forever. iOS 4 had a much better approach and then with iOS they went into these tiny 9 grids you need to swipe between.

They really need to implement the App Library style folders, just allow you arrange them how you want in the folder. Some sorting options would be nice as well.

I presume why this hasn't been touched is because they don't want to move anyones app placements but it really needs addressing.

Wow, did we really have folders in iOS 4 already? You sure that wasn't a jailbreak feature? I could absolutely be wrong, it just feels like folders came a good bit later.

It was iOS 4! See the MacRumors article from the time:

A mix between iOS 4 and what we have now would be nice.

I seem to remember that in iOS 4, 5 & 6 you could only have a certain amount of apps in a folder at one time. It didn't scroll, so you were limited by how many apps could fit on the tiny screens of the time. Hence I'd end up with multiple folders - 'Games 1' 'Games 2' etc.

At least with iOS7 and onwards you could put as many apps in a folder as you liked.

The amount of apps allowed per-page in folders should be increased though, for sure.

Nice read, thanks. Always nice to get a blast from the past. I do remember when multitasking arrived, loved it.
