I'm glad 17"ers are relatively unpopular (and something makes me think more members here bought it than overall)... makes being elitist easier ;p 3.06/7200rpm/glossy due on Friday!

I bought the 15 inch Macbook Pro.

2.8GHz processor
4GB RAM
500GB Hard disk
NVIDIA GeForce 9400M + 9600M GT with 512MB

I also picked up Adobe Creative Suite Web Premium.

This is a stellar machine.

Also got the 2.8ghz, standard.

Awaiting further information about the SATA issue, but planning on getting a 160gb Intel x25-M and dream about the lowering of 4gb strips' prices.

I have a 2.6ghz (early 2008) at work, I believe it's the last before unibody and the last they offered the option matt screen - so I can only compare to that, but wow, the colors are vivid and strong. Gorgeous.

Fantastic machine.

I am getting the 3.06ghz 17" with a matte screen. I thought about an SSD but they seem too much $$$ still. Maybe black Friday I will pick one up. My old MBP was a 2.6ghz 17" with a matte screen, so a modest upgrade for now.

I'm also quite surprised the 17" isn't too far less popular than the 15".

I didn't think that many would by the 17". Yes, the screen real estate is GREAT, but do you guys carry them much, use them on your lap, and don't you find they take up a lot desk space, why not a 15" or 13" with an external monitor.

I'm just curious, I'd love to own a 17" for the screen size alone, but the points I mentioned above always sway me to a smaller notebook.

I do not get all the drama about the heaviness or the largesse of the 17". A 17" PowerBook - undoubtedly heavier than the MBP - rode in my backpack while I toured Europe for a month. There's only a 1.2 pound difference between the 15" and 17". It's not that big a deal, really.

I lifted one up in the Apple Store last week and knew that - even despite the fact that I have a 15" now - I was going to go for the 17" - mainly for the screen resolution. The fact that they dropped the ExpressCard slots from all but the 17" and they shaved a few hundred off the price made it a no-brainer.

I wonder, if money is no issue, would you guys get the 15" or even the 17" instead? I see that most people here got the 13" due to the price. Some for portability. But if you have the money, would you rather have the high 15" or 17"?

I could've gone with whichever I wanted, and had briefly considered the 15", but it just isn't something I need, especially for what I do.

My high school always had Macs, so all throughout, we got to use 13" MacBooks, which I'd grown fairly accustomed to. It's the perfect size for me.

i'm happy to report that i'm a new, happy mac owner!

15" Macbook Pro
3.06Ghz
4GB Ram
500GB 7200RPM Hard Drive
NVIDIA GeForce 9400M + 9600M GT with 512MB

well it should arrive tomorrow morning!

*on a side note, hoping for a firmware update to fix the 1.5Gbs SATA issue!

just got a MBP 2.66GHz stock machine.. everything looking good, apart from the bottom of MBP is so hot under load on 9600GT that you can fry eggs on it !
am i doing it wrong? is it normal? (I used ibook previously, the plastic case only get so hot) but this aluminium case is really untouchable..

Slight change to my post in here. I took back the 13.3 MBP and got the previous 15" 2.4 MBP, I wanted the larger screen and better video performance of the 9600m GT. I did sacrifice the better battery of the new model, but I'm usually at home with this laptop.

The screen difference, well I couldn't tell one being better from the other to be honest.

Ordered a 13" MBP, 2.53 GHz, 4GB RAM, 500GB HD, scheduled to arrive TODAY *excited*!! :D:D:D

I'm probably going to update the RAM if the price gets lowered (= not right away).

Personally, I would rather get the 13" for the portability. I love the thinness and lightness of the Air, but I would rather not sacrifice the extra ports and convenience of a built-in DVD drive.

I suppose the 15" is a nice compromise, but if I wanted the larger screen I would jump right up to the 17" (although one of the guests on Macbreak Weekly complained that the 17" was too big to open up on an airplane).

Then again, if money is not an issue, I'd just get one of each! :D

I have a 15" Dell that I like but its not very portable. I also have a Aspire One that is very portable, but i'm not impressed with its performance. I wanted something (size wise) in the middle of the two. Which led me to the 13" macbook.

If, and when, the Dell needs to be replaced I will consider my options again. This is my first Mac and I hope it makes me cross over for good.

you'll love it I'm sure, I'm coming from a 15" MBP and an 1.8/128ssd MBA and I've only had it a few hours now so far it's great, first impressions excellent and it's MUCH lighter than many people (mostly MBA owners :) ) claim it to be.

The 15" was heavy on the lap, clunky on a desk, the 13" MBP is none of that, plus it's got so much more power than the Air, so far so good.

I bought the 13.3" base model (2.26 mhz). Upgraded the RAM to 4 gb myself and installed a WD 500 gb Scorpio Blue HDD.

The price difference and the minor increase in performance made me decide for this one over the 2.53 mhz. I wanted a good compromise between portability and usability, that made me chose the 13" over the 15". I've been a heavy user of windows and linux based laptops over the years, everything from the most recent netbooks to "movable workstations". I've been glancing at the Mac's for the past two to three years but never found the equation of price/performance satisfactory. The new MBP range and the drop in price drew me over, that and in no particular order:

- Lack of heat (I like to place my laptops on my lap, but most PC's will give you some serious burn damage if you do so. My new MBP is remarkably cool to the touch, despite heave use and workload - I love it! :D )

- Lack of noise (I can get really disturbed and annoyed at load computer fans and grinding HDD's. Again, Apple is a head of most PC manufacturers).

- Design (do I need to develop this comment any further )

- "User experience" (I really like the Apple way of thinking when it comes to designing a OS. It's so refreshing to be liberated from all configuration tinkering and being allowed to just focus on getting the creative work done)

- Snow Leopard :p

Rock on :apple:! ;)

Got the base model 13" MBP Jr. I love it! I was tempted by the Air, but it's lack of expandability made me decide on the MBP. I really like the improved screen and have been enjoying the battery life.

I'm still waiting!!!! Macbook specs shown below. It is now in Alaska, at least its finally out of China:D unlike some peoples macbooks:(
Anyway its my first :apple:macbook and I even got the Iomega 500GB External HD which was delivered on Tuesday. I have now got all my files on there. I also have COD4 for mac and the wireless Mighty Mouse.

So i'm just waiting:cool:
