Why did they use this tag line given they never updated Apple tv or ipods? How would a yearly Ipad update be way to long?

no one cared about anything they introduced because WE ALL WANTED a new AppleTV! This damn thing is gonna be built up into the most sought-after, most anticipated product that they'll never have to even talk about.

Based on the chatter in the iMac, Mac Mini and iPad forums. I'd say you're incorrect. I don't have (nor do I want) an apple TV, so can't gauge the interest there. Saying that though means not everyone wanted an apple tv. Basically, many people were anxious for the products they cared about, Since you care about the apple tv, that's fine, but that doesn't mean everyone else does.
If you noticed, the presentation was full of jokes, more so than ever. I think the teaser was also a joke, in that it hasn't been long at all since Apple's last product launch. Kinda like when you meet someone for the umpteenth time that day and you say hello as if you haven't seen them in ages.
Thought it was a clearly a joke about them just having the iPhone 6/Watch event. It's like when you see someone you were just with and they say, "Long time no see," as a joke.
the iMac 5K isnt about offering a product for people to actually purchase. its one of those, we are Apple, we did it because we can, but its not affordable to anyone who is in the market for an AIO.
The Mac Mini is pretty lackluster, just spec bump after such a long haitus seems like a slap in the face.
We knew the new air was coming so the tag line wasnt designed for that purpose.
the Mini 3 is literally a middle finger to the consumer
