The MBPro at the bottom of the order page (under the two 15-inch TB models) is, in fact, the 2015 rMBPro.
It can be ordered from that same page. It is NOT a 2016 model, which the OP proves.
The order can be customized, if you prefer something other than the stock configuration, such as processor speed, or adding Apple apps, such as Final Cut Pro X.
I suspect that Apple has the various hardware configurations for that older model on the shelf, no need to have one specially manufactured. But I wonder how the 11 different listed foreign language keyboards are handled, plus the various hardware combinations? Adds up to 99 different hardware configurations to keep on the shelf, doesn't it?
It would not be a difficult task to have the various logic boards and storage sizes, etc. on the shelf, and do final assembly as needed. That would also not be "manufactured", just a delayed final assembly for those custom configurations.

Nothing to be confused about.
The "2015" MacBook Pros are still in the active product lineup with the 2016 models.
They can still be "built-to-order" in custom configurations, as well.
Your MBPro -WAS- manufactured in December, because they're still making them. It's a "2015 design" product made in 2016.
Aside:
How soon folks forget that the "2012" MacBook Pro (non-retina) remained an active product until only about 5 months ago!

If you want to conserve battery power, I suggest you get used to using Safari with fewer tabs loaded.
I'd recommend a maximum of 5-7. Do you -really- need to keep more than that loaded at one time?

I don't believe that the position of the sound volume control makes any difference UNLESS sound is actually being played.

Try repeating your tests with fewer Safari tabs open, and let us know how you make out...

Thanks for taking the time to clarifying.
I must say the ordering for the 2015 is buried on the apple site, very difficult for Joe Public to find.
Its interesting that the 2015 still can be built to order though.
I read somewhere that Apple keep 5 days stock so as not to stockpile.
With that in mind I wonder if the line in China has stopped or not.
I noticed also buried on the iPhone 7 apple site that the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus is available to order - those models being orginally released 14 months ago.

Old link I found but I also have read similar recently.

'In 2012, Apple was said to turn inventory every 5 days!'

Thanks for posting.

So to confirm a base model 2015 not built to order would not show Dec 2016 - as production in China has stopped.

However a 'built to order' model as OP has, would show a date anytime until apple stop selling the 2015? ie say March 2017 just as an example.

I'm especially interested because I want to buy (not for myself) two base model 13" rMBP 2015 and although the price dipped a lot around the 2016 launch http://uk.camelcamelcamel.com/Apple-MacBook-Retina-Display-13-inch/product/B00UY2U93W its back now to above pre 2016 launch prices.

Really not trying to pick on you, but I don't understand why you're making this so difficult. Apple still manufacturers the 2015 13" MBP as both stock and BTO. Why do you keep insisting production has stopped?

Just wait.... we'll soon have company's offering salaries of "up to $50,000 a year, theoretically possible under these specific circumstances".

Eventually people will complain when their average salary turns out to be $10,000 a year, because the dream circumstances never turn up in real life.

The company responds with we never promised you $50,000
And the company would be right.

I have yet to see a macbook achieve the insane batterylife :apple: and some reviewers claim to achieve.

7 hours is fantastic!

Okay, this should set it straight...

The 2015 13" & 15" MBP is still being manufactured for sale as new on Apple's website (and I assume at an Apple store). Anyone can order one today.

(the caveat being the 15" is no longer offered with a dGPU)

:)

I use Opera as my default browser for Mac. Mainly because I prefer the speed dial which has folders, can be customized for a different background, and has a better ad blocker than Safari. Opera also is better on RAM and data usage. I have Opera Turbo and the battery saver turned on. On Safari, I get about 30% worse battery life. You can already see the difference between Safari and Opera on YouTube. A bunch of ad banners are seen with Safari.

The 2015 15" MBP is no longer manufactured or for sale on the Apple website. (I don't know exactly how Apple deals with remaining stock - how much they push that out to authorized resellers, versus their own stores, versus keeping stock on hand for replacements and refurbishing).

For the record, the 2015 15" MBP is still being sold, BTO, on Apple's website, they just don't let you configure it with dedicated GPU anymore:
