You're correct, you can say whatever you want on MacRumors as long as the posts don't break the rules. And when they do...

How do you break the rules of MacRumors when talking about a billionaire or oligarch and people who worship them in general?

A Tesla phone would have many fans and give I believe, give the iphone and android a run for their money.

It would be a repackaged Android phone at best. Developing a new OS with developer support in this era takes years and years and by the time you release it you will be miles and miles behind where Apple and Google will be at that time of release.

Oh I don’t know… people seem pretty vocal about how far behind Android, Apple is. It wouldn’t take much to catch up to Apple, would it?

Apple has never been behind Android. Developer tools for iOS are second to none.

It’s even worse that Android phones run on processors far slower than Apple’s own chips.

Yeah sure, Facebook phone is insanely popular it dies. Same as windows phone. Elon musk would need to have over 90% of American population supporting him to make this phone to even have a chance. And which OS will they use? AOSP? a Brand new system? Who builds phones for them? App support? These dudes have absolutely no idea what that suggestion means.
Yeah, that’s what they said about electric cars, reusable rockets, and satelite internet.

A phone is a walk in the park.

I don't care who it is but I would love someone else to make a new device.

Personally I find it disappointing that it takes the threat of two big bullies pulling an app, or the ability to pull on app to make this happen. It's as if it's not enough for a company to produce an innovative new product (like Apple did) but it takes the emotion or people wanting to leave Apple or Google to create enough momentum for a new product to arise. I never wanted to leave Blackberry, I was happy to try an iPhone.

Oh the brainwash. You know him I assume?
We know how he’s presented himself in the public arena. And that’s enough. He’s an elitist silver spoon tool, who was born on 3rd base, piggybacked off of others’ hard work and acts like he hit a triple.

Tesla wouldn’t even be around without the corporate welfare they’ve received in the past. Maybe one day Tesla, who he didn’t start, will actually pay their taxes.

you can feel however you want about him. But when someone shows me who they truly are, I tend to go with it.

Edit: Grammar and clarity.

He's not a great dude, but if his history is any indication, the phone will be shoddily built and not very good.
Maybe. His cars certainly had quality control issues but they improved. I have a model 3 and a Y both are great with no issues. Just like the iPhone, it had “Antennagate”, “Bendgate”…etc. Bendgate happened on Apple’s 6th version of the iPhone. That’s a long time into making phones to still have shoddily built products. But Apple turned it around, Tesla turned it around, maybe the Tesla Phone will have issues at first also but who’s to say they can’t improve in future iterations?

Reminds me of when someone put out the “Freedom Phone” a few years ago with the promise of an uncensored App Store and a bunch of conservative pre-loaded apps.

It was really just a rebranded Chinese Android phone 😄

I never had issues with my iPhone 6 bending. But, then again, I never wore skinny jeans and shoved a phone in back pocket and sat on it. There was no “gate.” Jus people mishandling expensive electronics and looking for a scapegoat rather than taking personal accountability.

As for the Tesla thing, I’m glad you’ve had no problems, but that’s you. They still have manufacturing anomalies going on to this day. This isn’t the iPhone 6 coming out of the factory in top-notch shape and people misusing it. These are straight up defects delivered to your door due to sloppy manufacturing tolerances unlike most other car companies out there.

Yes, it happens with Tesla. Still.

Twitter was runned poorly like every other ''cool" web 3.0 business. It was bleeding money like crazy and wasn't profitable. By wrecking havoc and firing employee during the first few weeks, it meant he mean business. Yes there's some short-term impact to this, but by far it's better for long-term.

Look at the following, isn't obvious enough?!

I used to like Elon, but now I can’t really say that. I just don’t understand why people think he’s some savior who can and will do absolutely everything to “save the world”

Especially among more conservative circles, I’ve noticed people view him as a Godsend, as they did Trump, and as they are now doing to Kanye and his “presidential endeavor” lol

I guess it’s all apart of the “cult” mentality — not in a bad way — and he’s their leader. Apple has it (I admit, I’m fully in it!), Trump, Elon, etc
I actually think if he put his mind and money to it he could make a very good phone and then he'd link it to his satellites and make some Marvel like thing to laser us to death for posting any insults to his delicate ego. It's a shame that so many successful creative visionaries are such garbage egomaniacs.

Nevertheless, I'm sure he's capable of creating a product many people will go nuts for, possibly literally, given the cult of personality that surrounds him.

Don’t be hopeful.

That platform is over. It has always been toxic and impossible to moderate. It cannot be fixed by someone who plays mind games with people. It cannot be fixed with “a new phone”.

It’s finished. The best thing is for Twitter to become a platform ONLY for crypto scams and the far right. Then they can eat each other. Everyone else should leave and laugh from the outside.

First, Twitter was going to do layoffs regardless of Elon buying them. Google it. It is HIS company, and if people think they can sit around and do nothing and put in 2 or 3 hours a day of work (my friend worked there), then I would have an issue too. And even if he asked them to work "hard" and be "dedicated" and "committed," HE WAS GOING TO PAY THEM FOR THE HOURS AND THE OVERTIME! You act like he is running a sweatshop.

Yep they kinda had no choice. Happens with a recession. Tech is still overvalued.

Lol. As someone who followed the whole twitter thread. No. It's not happening.

  • Apple/google aren't kicking the app off the store.
  • If they did, and Elon tried to make a phone, he's missing an entire ecosystem to support it. It aint happening.
  • Microsoft tried and failed.

Thanks for explaining. Lol. I made a joke about it. But it’s funnier seeing those explain why this won’t happen as if it isn’t obvious.

BTW if Tesla builds a phone with no data collection sharing of data, then they are out of the game.
Fat chance... Tesla is already submitting pictures/video from their cars including footage from the cabin camera showing the driver to third parties using sentry mode. Happened about a year ago in Berlin/Germany and a few other cases where Tesla collected illegal footage and made it accessible to others.

Both of those are not road worthy and unsafe. Most cities in the world aren’t like those American cities that have 30 mile straight roads and no visible pedestrians. FSD will never be a thing in any car brand in cities like Paris, Hanoi or Mumbai that grew organically over 100s of years and are very densely populated with a lot of footfall.
Have you looked at a single statistic?

Cambridge Mobile Telematics: “The crash rate per million miles driven was 91 percent lower for a person driving in a Tesla compared to when the same person drove another car they owned.”

“In the 4th quarter, we recorded one crash for every 4.31 million miles driven in which drivers were using Autopilot technology (Autosteer and active safety features). For drivers who were not using Autopilot technology (no Autosteer and active safety features), we recorded one crash for every 1.59 million miles driven.” - Tesla Q4 2021 Vehicle Safety Report

Ignoring the subjective “road worthy” (I’d argue that something that keeps me and others safer and is more convenient is very much “road worthy”), Teslas are some of the safest vehicles you can buy today, and that’s in no small part because of Autopilot’s proactive safety features.

It’s obvious you’ve never really looked at FSD. The car is demonstrably good at handling pedestrians, and it handles incredibly curved and narrow roads like a human. Just take a look at it tackling the Berkeley Hills.

That is a poor statistic because the proper method for collecting stats doesn’t exist yet.

Put as many Teslas on the road as other manufacturers. Put them in densely populated cities with a lot of pedestrian foot fall. Enable FSD on the Teslas all the time, not just partially or assisted. Then record data.

That’s how you do a correct comparison. Anyone who disagrees has lost their marbles or is wearing blinders.

It will 100% be a disaster. FSD is a beta software and even non-beta final software cannot be bug free or not suffer from latency issues. If FSD ever comes out of “beta” it should only be enabled on straight highways.
