The iPhone dev team has just released a 1.1.1 sim unlock. Well, that about does it- we can jailbreak and activate 1.1.1... now we can unlock it from ATT sims for free.

Looks like it still needs a bit more polish- no GUI yet- but it is now in the wild.

Looks shaky still. Will ONLY unlock VIRGIN 1.1.1 firmware- if you have previously unlocked with AnySIM or iUnlock, DO NOT USE (yet).

Maybe I will part with 50 bucks and get the ipsf version- that seems better, does not brick (yet). But their version seems better and more stable than what the dev team is doing.

That's great news! However, I would be very cautious with their stuff until we know what it does underneath the surface - I've donated twice to the dev team but feel they got their priorities messed up when they focused only on 1.1.1 unlock rather than on all the people who got their basebands corrupted last time around.

Hopefully they got it right this time! Still grrrreat news - how many weeks did it take? Much faster than was thought anyway. Nice.

I agree- there have been a LOT of promises about unbricking and reverting software, and we haven't seen anything of the sort. The unbricking should have been out BEFORE a 1.1.1 unlock, at least in my perfect world.

Not to take away from their efforts and work, which I am happy they are doing.

The Dev team has a re-lock solution, it's just not simple enough, and the new version of AnySim has been checked to not corrupt the baseband, Great proggress has been done.

Well, then they really DONT have a solution, do they? And until they can get my baseband back, I think they have mucked up my phone. The ipfw, while notfree, sure looks a lot better right now from where I sit.

No they didn't, YOU mucked your iphone, they didn't force you to unlock it, and the solution is moderately simple, so it's 50/50. If all this could be done in 2 weeks, i bet a re-lock wil be here in another.

OK, I am willing to take responsibility for "mucking" up my phone... I made the choice, and I am willing to live with it. But the dev team mucked it up far worse than IPSF would have. Further, the dev team has not yet fixed their mess. I would think they should prioritize fixing their own **** up before they go to the next step (which thus far is only a half solution).

Given what I know now, the IPSF solution is a much better, more stable, and more responsible unlock than what the dev team has shown so far. I fault the IPSF team for not actively providing support to their users. But there version has proven not to take the shortcuts that the dev team did, resulting in Anysim bricking phones, and IPSF surviving.
