I think 2.0 was available on July 10 and the 3G came out July 11.

No. It 2.0 and the iPhone 3G was announced on June 9th and 2.0, the iPhone 3G, and iTunes 7.7 were released on July 11th. 2.0 was leaked before July 11th, but the official release was the 11th.

Pretty sure nearly every person in line waiting for the 3G had 2.0 on their first-gen iPhone and they were playing games (SMB, etc). If it wasn't on the 10th, it was very early morning 11th, as in the wee hours before people started lining up. I was in line at 5:00AM. I highly doubt that many people downloaded a leaked 2.0 firmware. Or they used the Apple Store WiFi and downloaded it as it became available (many had laptops with them).
