I’m dubious about the potential for this product but I did think it would quickly sell out initially. Is it still available?

Hasn’t slipped for in store pickup for me.. Feb. 3rd is what it showed and still does. Delivery is March time though. The more I think about it the more I just can’t do it. Its a very expensive ipad at best and not getting love from some big players. Going to have to see how this plays out and if they ever consider a real OS At this price.

It's available at dozens and dozens of Apple Stores for physical pick up practically at launch (found several for Feb 3rd).

Delivery has slipped a LOT !
Now it's months later.

Looks like Apple will be shipping those that want delivery from China instead of Apple warehouses.

Best to choose store pickup as allocation is still available.

in-store pick up looks like its still available then when you try to do it and then its not available.

Some Los Angeles stores showing early February dates for pickup up to selecting a time, however I have not proceeded to payment as I have a February 2 confirmation already with payment at a store and was searching for different closer store when I ran into the availability it offers, but for February 4, 5 and 6. Not sure if proceeding with actual payment will fail or confirm the reservation

I tried it out like I was going to actually buy one starting on my Mac, then went to phone then back to Mac that part is at least kind of neat. It said available Feb 3rd but I thought it came out on the 2nd? Would that just mean maybe the store near me doesn't get them until the day after?

Also I loled at the "essentials" accessories and stuff. Wouldn't you think for $3500 they could include a carrying case and a belt clip with the whole package, at least as a thank you for being an early adopter? Apple USED to do stuff like that. They did it with the iPod and the iPhone. I specifically remember getting a iPod that had a dock, a clip that had volume buttons and back/forward/play, a belt clip and a little bag for your accessories. I dunno just seems insulting for something completely unproven.

I just checked it out now. Delivery to Chicago is March 1 but it is still available for pickup on February 3 from Michigan Ave. My guess is that they are sending lots of stock to physical stores.

Remember Apple Watch was like this too. They insisted people pick them up in stores. When the Apple Watch Hermes launched, 6 months after the original Apple Watch, it required a physical visit to a handful of Apple and Hermes stores across the US. Even Chicago (3rd largest city/metro area) was not included on the list. I happened to be making a business trip to New York on launch day so managed to get one by trekking up from my hotel in Midtown to the Upper East Side early in the morning and waiting in line for about 45 minutes.

Seems like the in-store is staggered based on setup times. Giving everyone enough time with an employee to feel situated and get questions answered. So I would imagine only so many of those per hour. I almost did a Feb 2 in store pickup but then decided I didn’t want to risk getting robbed at the Grove in LA. Not to fear monger. Just feels like the type of item that would be subject to it. Like the iPhones back in the day.

At what point? When you actually tried to place the order?
Yes that’s correct. When I got to the final order screen it said pick up not available. It’s the second time it happened. It greyed out the option for in store pickup I have an appointment for in store pickup already that I got right at launch.

I felt like I was a target when I was leaving the Apple Store at Victoria Gardens in Rancho when the Studio Mac and Studio Display came out on launch day.

Those were bigger boxes...

Oh..I get to the final order screen and it’s ok for me. Might be your store. Try selecting another store. I’m still on Feb. 3rd. Have removed and added multiple times just to check.

I'm deep in the Apple ecosystem, but just didn't make sense for me to jump on this yet. Such a fringe use case to start - I think you have to really love the tech and want to explore it to pre-order right now. Very curious to see how the launch goes, more videos and hands-on experiences come out, to see what "it really is".

They always ship from China. Even your iPhones on launch.. There is probably some embargo tariff thing they are doing shipping them last minute out of China. Or maybe UPS isn't able to handle them until a few weeks before shipping. It's UPS that ships these. Apple usually has nothing to do with it.
