The AI features if that is what you want to call them arent that game changing. I think people that doesn’t have a Pro device are fine.

But don't feel bad if you don't have one, cuz my last phone was a 6S, so if this lasts anything like that I'll no doubt miss out on a lot of new iOS features over the next 7 years...

Yup, and the camera improvements lately, while always good to have, hasn't been the game changer it used to be. The photo differences between an iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro, to the casual user who just posts on Instagram, isn't moving the needle anymore. AI features is what drive sales now.

Won't know until Apple reveals A18 for iPhone 16 Pro/Max. In terms of memory, Apple can easily bump up the RAM from 8GB (currently expected) to 12GB or more. But it's the NPU design and performance that was probably locked in a year ago.
We just don't know if Apple is playing catch up for their hardware. On the software side, it seems to be so based on the beta availability and features of iOS 18.
I think it's the ram that makes all the difference here. Going from 6GB to 8GB is a lot for an iphone, and I would imagine Apple Intelligence needs a good amount of it.

It is unfortunate. I suspect Apple will cut you a special buy one get one deal if you upgrade in September.

A really small number of people outside of the forums is upgrading their phone over this. People avoid updates and hit the "update later" button when they get the pop up for months before their phone automatically updates. The general public really don't care about new stuff and might care for Genmoji at best, but who is buying a 1000 dollar phone because of that.

I understand why many people are upset that their iPhone 15/14 Pro/14 isn't getting AI features at this point. However, this situation could actually be advantageous. Here’s why:
First, you have one of the newest iPhone models with a large amount of RAM, so it won't be slowed down by resident AI processes. Many people who don't want AI features, viewing them as intrusive, may prefer to buy your high-end phone on the used market because it’s updated but not overloaded with AI.
Second, there are scenarios where you don't want a memory resident AI such as this. Some companies (Elon Musk and Tesla) are stating that they will not allow phones with memory-resident AI in the workplace. They will require employees to check these iPhones at the door. Perhaps older phones will get a pass. This may create a situation where your iPhone is more desirable on the used market BECAUSE it lacks the AI. As a parent I also understand some don't want their children becoming involved with this tech just yet. They may seek phones like yours, too.
Additionally, those of us with iPhone 14 Pros can choose not to upgrade and save money. If you really want AI features, consider subscribing to ChatGPT directly. Their full-featured AI service is much more powerful than the lighter versions offered on phones, which mainly promote their own services. The best features of ChatGPT are only available through a paid subscription. AI on the iPhone will be relatively basic for at least three years, until you likely upgrade anyway.
Lastly, a coworker made an excellent point. There is a lot of competition between different AI companies, and they are increasingly offering bundled packages which include, for example, 1 TB of data for storing your photos, documents, and videos. You might determine it more fiscally smart to purchase one of these services and not pay more for iCloud, while you take advantage of an overall better AI experience.
It's my belief that Apple (like with Stage Manager) will open AI up to other phones after the initial sale of the iPhone 16 models. Samsung sold their S24 and claimed older phones wouldn't enjoy AI features, only to renig 2 months after sales began. Apple already appears behind with AI, and the technology is moving so fast that it may not wait around for Apple to fleece its customers for another year or more. Apple needs the data.
So, keep your phone, save money, or spend less than an upgrade would cost, and enjoy a monthly subscription/bundle including a superior level of AI directly from the company that created it. You do have options.

No, it’s hypocritical of Apple to make those devices, quite literally telling customers their special Apple RAM is equivalent to double the RAM, and that it really doesn’t matter that it’s such a small amount. That we should buy their devices priced at the same cost as competitors while giving us less on specs because it’s Apple and they make it work. Then suddenly they don’t make it work ✌️
I do sincerely believe they didn’t intend to do that and would’ve given iPhone 15 the necessary RAM if they had AI plans when they designed it. I also believe the 15 can’t run it because you can’t find a model that runs well on 6GB RAM. But their tendency to bean-count on the bill of materials came back to bite them.

I'm curious why would you want to switch from a 13 Pro to a 15 anyway? Phone's 2 years apart are hardly worth upgrading for, especially if going from a pro to non-pro?There goes my interest in switching to the iPhone 15 from a iPhone 13 Pro
I hope the regular 16 will support the AI-features - I don't think/hope they'll put an iPhone 14-chip in it.
I don't change my computer, car or bicycles every year and there's always newer, faster or lighter ones of them having the design tweaked or improved every year. I don't see why phone's are any different. I'd just enjoy your 13 Pro as surely it's still a great phone that does 99% of what the latest 15 Pro does, and no matter what the latest one does, the next year's will do something else new on top.
In the past I was the "switch-every-two-years"-phone guy but my needs changed, I'm an older man now (36) and I'm alright with taking good pictures of my kids with a duo-cam-setup (without the need of a zoom).
My battery is also getting worse so the little things add up. The action-button would be nice, but like I said, times changed me haha

They only said that for computers didn't they, and there's many years worth of them will support new AI features? But I still think selling computers with 8 GB baseline is daft/shameful based on current RAM prices (same for 256GB storage).
