The PS One was launched in Japan 15 years ago today.

SCEJ has put up a celebratory Web site.

    Some fun facts:

    • PS One sold roughly 125 million units over its lifetime.
    • Grand Turismo was its best selling game title at 10.8 million copies.
    • PS One was actually spawned out of a Sony/Nintendo co-developed CD-ROM accessory for the Super Nintendo.

I remember that. I was heartbroken when the deal fell through at the time, because I thought my dreams of being able to play arcade-perfect versions of Dragon's Lair and Space Ace were ruined. :D

Didn't get released in September here in the US following?

I remember going to EB games to pick mine up after a pre-order - $299.99 and one game. I still have it complete in box (I had started collecting videogame systems so I kept everything).

And 1/3 of Playstation's life was spent developing Gran Turismo 5!

I still have my original "black" copy. As well as many other PS1 games. Maybe I'll take a photo of some of my favorites for memories and post it.

Happy Birthday PlayStation, You will always have a piece of me with you!

    Good egg!
I remember back when I was 11 and my bro was 9, Christmas was coming up and we asked our dad for an N64. Come the big day we got a PS1 and N64 which melted our brains :D. Still got that system too. Had to have a few repairs over the years but its still going. Got lightgun peripherals, dance mats, memory cards with multiple chips built in so you had to flick between "pages". First game we played; Tekken 1! Had FFVII but never even played it till I ripped it for PSP.
All I really play now is the DS, PSP and PC.

I had to sell my Genesis along with all the games I had (Phantasy Star II-IV included *SIGH*) and save up allowance, bottle return money, odd job money... and I got up to $300 for the original PS. I was at the store with my parents and looking at it, drooling rather, and they surprised me by grabbing it with a memory card and FF7. They paid the rest for me since I had busted my ass for so long. I almost crapped my pants when I was setting it up :D

Very enjoyable system. This and the N64 got a lot of play-time during college. Mostly FF7, Madden, and Castlevania on this system though.

Too bad the controller that is still being used is 15 years old right :) That might be the only thing keeping me from getting a PS3. It's a personal preference but I cannot stand the Playstation controllers.

Ah, those were the days, weren't they?

I still have the original MGS, Castlevania: SotN, Lunar: SSSC, and both of the Fear Effect games (none of those greatest hits, but ORIGINALS) plus so many others.

    Greatest console of all time.

I still have my original PlayStation (complete with the serial port which they removed), along with four DualShocks, MultiTap and a stack of accessories. Fantastic system.

    *hates Ed now*

The closest thing I got to the PocketStation was playing the emulated version on my PC copy of FFVIII
