I would love it at $50 for a stripped down one that can stream but has no hd but USB2.0 for connecting a external Hd. And can Record tv and sync to my new ipod :) (I dont get it i love video on my ipods screen..)

i too would love it to be like a DVR and hook up my ipod to it and sync shows

If it had a built in DVD player I would be sold. HD/Bluray would be nice, but I would settle for a standard DVD drive, as I have no more open component slots, and one HDMI.

Hopefully there will be the ability to choose different models, the one we saw already, and maybe another one that costs a little more that has a DVD slot.

Is it going to have the same name in the UK though - with the trouble over Apple v Apple in music. ITV is already a household name in broadcasting and television here: http://www.itv.com/

This has probably already been covered, I can just smell lawsuits...:(

When Steve Jobs introduced it, he was very clear that iTV is a code name for the project and that they need to find a real product name before release, precisely because of these trademark issues with existing products and companies. I expect we will hear the real name at MWSF next week.

I'm gonna go waaaaaay out on a limb here and say that if Quicktime doesn't play it, iTV won't either. Remember, Apple wants the integrated solution. They want you to use iTunes as your primary and preferably only jukebox software. That way they can make the experience nice and easy. I've not tried playing avi's in the "Divx Movies" section of Frontrow. Does it work? I convert everything to iTnues standard format anyway, because I also like slick, integrated and easy solutions.

It does. I've played all sorts of movie formats by dumping the files into my Movies folder. Front Row plays them all, provided that QT plays them.

It even plays the WMV-HD files from MariposaHD, albeit it takes a while for Front Row to "process" it initially. The first time I tried it, I thought that Front Row crashed. It was just "thinking".

If the iTV supports codec installation (it truly should if its based on QT), compatibility shouldn't be a problem at all. There's a QT codec for about everything these days, short of OGM and RealPlayer, but who uses RealPlayer anyway? OGM would be nice, though...

I was at a friends the other night, and he had Windows Media Center running on his set-up, and it made me jones for something like that from Apple. I didn't like the UI for MC, and I know that Apple could do it better. I don't feel like dropping the money for a TiVo or anything subscription based, so if iTv ever features anything like this it would be great.

ok...

this is a thread about the iTV.

OMG! That smiley just... it says it all. It's amazing. Did you make that yourself? I'm so glad that you, with your rapier wit and staggering graphic design skills, came here into this thread to eviscerate me for my horrible crimes.

I confess it: I had the bad taste -- no, the evil intent! -- to come into a thread about the iTV, and talk about why I wasn't getting it, even though I wanted to purchase it! I'm such a dick :p It's a wonder I haven't been banned permanently.

Until next time, do try not to be tongue-in-cheek -- that could lead to analingus!

you can always buy a 802.11n card for it cant you?

iBooks and 12" PowerBooks don't have PCMCIA slots. The Mac Mini also doesn't have an expansion slot.

You'd have to get a USB dongle for those Macs, and it would be nice to not have to. I wonder how the Airport Extreme cards are connected now to their hosts? It'd be nice to swap them out and upgrade them with other cards in the future.
