I have a black Apple watch 5 and a black Milanese loop strap. The watch screen is playing up, so I thought about replacing the watch. The strap was a birthday present from my family, so I really want to keep it. The watch bit is more replaceable to me than the strap (sentimentally).

Some chance, though, without paying for the insanely expensive Hermes. Has anyone found a good watch colour match for a black metal strap like the one I have?

yea, Apple decided not to offer "black" anymore except for the SB SS Hermes, so I hear ya ...

do a search for "black Milanese" in either of those threads below, I am sure some folks have posted pics with a black Milanese band and other color watches ...

Thanks I’ll check. Half tempted to get Apple to replace the screen on my 5. It still performs well and the battery is holding up nicely. Just parts of the screen not responding… which will serve me right for getting a crack fixed by a 3rd party company.

do you have AC+? I think otherwise there is a flat repair charge of $399 (maybe $299) so that could be a costly route for a S5 (imho), but contact Apple regardless.

There is a possibility that the next AW models might feature true black again but who knows

Not on the watch and I think you're right about the waste of money on the screen repair.

I have only had one black AW (a S3) and all the others have been silver stainless (except my Ultra) and I love my black Milanese on the silver stainless steel.

The strap will last longer than the support for any Watch.

4 - 5 years and the Watch will be tossed in the tech junk drawer (unsupported, unrepairable and of no trade-in value), and the strap will be ready for whatever comes next - though Apple will likely try and make it incompatible (see your hunt for a watch that looks good with the strap).

Time was (excuse the pun) when it was a watch that outlasted the strap - and, having blown significant bucks, that watch might be eventually handed down to later generations. Or accumulated in value.

You can still buy an old school watch.

In casual use, I do not notice a clash between the two…

Being trained as an architect… I can make myself discern the difference, if I wish to make myself unhappy… 😊
Once I notice something like that I fixate on it until it consumes me; it’s a frustrating habit.

My S4 is a few months shy of 5 years old, still lasts me a full day, still looks great despite me stopping to use screen protector a year ago, and I don’t see any compelling reasons to upgrade as most changes seem to have been incremental.

I agree - my S5 is fine except I had to the screen replaced (damage) and went to 3rd party. After a while it developed a fault where the edges are not responsive to touch. Can’t send messages etc.

Found it. From my launch day S5 SS Gold

Think it goes well.

I loved the copper-gold color of the S4/S5 Gold Stainless Steel. I wanted an S4, but the Apple Store only had Space Black so I bought it and wore it for years before I replaced it a Series 8 Gold Stainless Steel (which is a silver-gold color).
