When troubleshooting you start with the obvious and escalate from their. My brothers HP laptop had this issue and we managed to find the source of the problem.

i like the part where you told us the source of the problem

My iTunes doesn't auto-open on boot up, it randomly opens for the hell of it. Very annoying on my laptop I mainly use for work.

edit: Windows 7 x64

Apparently I'm a Mac fanboy that "have the tech knowledge of an ape" and the OP only wants Windows users to reply.

I am not a Windows user, my brother is, so the OP has no interest in my response.

Wifi Sync causes iTunes to open every 5-15 minutes because iTunes has to be open for it to sync with your iOS device. Just minimize iTunes and forget about it OR disable WiFi Sync

It's happening to me too. Are you on iOS 5. I'll bet it has something to do with it recognizing the phone OTA. Is wireless sync enabled? I haven't found a fix for this yet. (Although I'm on Mac.)

so anyone have a fix? you thread perfectionists?

You have "open itunes when iphone is connected" box checked. it behaves just like when you have your phone plugged in to itunes when wifi sync is on. just un check and you should be fine. happened to me on the betas

edited to add: when you have wifi sync enabled and you slide to unlock your phone, itunes thinks it is connected to computer and opens up when you have the above box checked

Answer 2 questions and we can better help you:

1. Is an iOS device plugged it when it does this?
2. Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling it?

Don't bother helping this windoze fanboy out. He apparently has a smug little anti-mac fanboy attitude.

I had the same problem. It was because i had a geek tool script accessing iTunes.

you might have another program that is trying to communicate with iTunes.

In my case...not sure where OP is,

1. Not all the time, and it happens with "WiFi sync" enabled or dissabled.
2. Yes, this happened with earlier betas as well. It was beta, so I didn't complain, but thought this would go away in the final release. Silly me.

As a part of the Wi-Fi sync, iTunes will always automatically open, whenever you boot up. It has been in effect for us developers since the first beta. It is that way so it is easily available and ready to sync, whenever you're in your network, and want to sync. Just refer to it as your "eyes on" iCloud.

I don't think that is it. granted i am on mac and mine has never done that and i use wifi sync.

this makes the most sense of why it would do that

i assume it has something to do with wifi sync. i am having the same issue.

From what I have noticed, this is why that is. Anytime my computer is woken up from sleep and my iPhone was on the same WiFi network it would start iTunes up automatically.

I posted this photo on page 1 of this thread, but apparently the OP has been using iTunes since 2002 and knows what to Check and Uncheck. But again what do I know, I'm just a Mac user.

this guy actually solved the issue! thanks

yeah, unchecking "opening itunes when iphone is connected" fixes the issue and you can still wi fi sync.

Except I'm a Windows user too, and the fact is that iTunes is terrible on Windows. He's not being anti-mac, he's being honest.

I had that with the beta, fixed it by unchecking "Automatically open iTunes when this iPhone is connected" (or something like that). I think that when it opens is because the ituneshelper program that rounds in the background detects the iPhone via wifi, and then loads up iTunes to try to sync it. It was very annoying when playing games or watching movies with the laptop hooked up to the TV.

Unchecking works, or...

I suspect (have not tested) that if not open, sync will not be automagical but only manual until opened.

For the ones annoyed by it popping up, one solution has already been stated if you want auto-syncing: leave it minimized.

In the advanced settings you have the option to remove it from the taskbar and leave it in the system tray. I've also added it to my startup folder so it never annoys me at an inappropriate time, just when first booting. If you want to go a bit further google ways to minimize it on startup (it doesn't annoy me *that* much.)

Hope this helps
