Canton, Oh
So I'm working on a project that, in all honesty, probably won't work but I'm trying. I'm trying to create a modified version of 10.6.3 that works as if it was 10.7. I have everything working except for being able to sync devices, which is the entire point in doing this. Can someone tell me where the Applemobiledevice and etc are located on 10.5.8?

Here's a photo of a very minor iTunes 10.7 feature running on PPC

Just a note here…

Way back when I got my iPhone 5 I took the appropriate kext files from iTunes 10.7 and placed them in the same place inside the iTunes 10.6.3 app.

Running 10.6.3 then and plugging in my iPhone 5 had no affect, I was still advised to update and the phone would not sync.

I am reasonably sure that this is because there is some sort of check to see if the connector is a lightning cable and if it's not then iTunes rejects syncing. Could be wrong on that, but in any case there is some checking somewhere as the 10.7 kext files do not allow syncing when used with 10.6.3.

^^^My post, the response and then my response are the ones to note.

Intel has said that there is enough in usbmuxd to allow the 5 to export photos to iPhoto (there was another thread on this) but not enough for syncing to iTunes.

If you can work around all that and get it to sync with a 5 or better that's awesome!

Yeah, I did notice I could sync my iPod with iOS 9 to iPhoto 09 on my G5. Thats what started me trying this. But if you couldn't get it, I'm sure I won't then. I'll still give it an attempt though. I do need to find the kexts for syncing though so I can put the correct one back in. I messed something up where I can't sync anything to iTunes anymore. Whoops.

Download the appropriate version of iTunes and open the installer using Pacifist. You'll find the appropriate kexts in there. Just put them in the correct folder location that you find from Pacifist and restart.

I mentioned earlier that I placed them inside the app itself, but I was going from faulty memory. I placed them wherever the folder location was that I found in Pacifist.

Alright I got it syncing to iOS 6 again, thanks.
But I was thinking, if the issue is mostly with the Lightning connector, then what about the 4/4S with iOS 7/8/9?

From what I know the lightning connector is the issue, and assuming that, then the 30pin should work

Good point. IDK.

Maybe something to do with IOS itself then.

If the problem is with iOS, a jailbreak may be able to spoof iTunes to think its an iOS 6 device
And if I knew where to look and how to do that I'd try it.

Honestly I don't know. I'm just guessing. But I imagine if it could be altered via a jailbreak it would have been done already. Lots of people on the 4 and 4s who got screwed when they updated to iOS 7.

One of those people was me, I had and still sort of have a 32GB Verizon iP4. The LCD cracked when the glue failed(due to the phone being bent). I may replace the screen as my iP5 is running out space. But then again I might be getting a 6s+ in a few weeks so I guess I will see. The weird thing was even on iTunes 10.6 there was no warning that iOS 7 would kill compatibility, so it forced people to upgrade to a newer Mac. Honestly I am perfectly content with my PPC Macs, and I hope to keep them going for many more years!

I know how to fake an iOS version. But it can be dangerous to the device if restarted with the fake number

Yeah, that's one of the reasons I never tried it. I don't need something so bad I'm going to lose my jailbreak over it because I messed with the iOS version number.

I have a 4S somewhere that I can attempt it on. Things on its last legs so if I brick it, it's whatever. I'll let you guys know what happens if I can find it.
