Hello everyone. I just find it is no longer possible to download app updates from iTunes 12.6.4. Does that mean we can no longer keep a collection of iOS apps locally?
The iTunes just says "The reported disk could not be found", as if the app is gone from App Store.

The app can be updated normally at iOS 12 though.

Update: looks like a network problem, either on my side or on the Apple side. Anyway, works again for now.

Yeah iTunes lost that a while ago. It’s now all off the device. There is a thread somewhere about having an older iTunes version that still does the updates somewhere.

I am using that said old version of iTunes but just realise I could not update the app using that iTunes anymore.

Well I just tried to test this, but apparently iTunes 12.6.4 won't even install on OS 10.14. Sigh.

Well, that's not good, IMO.

I'm at iTunes 12.6.3.6 on a brand new iMac on High Sierra 10.13.5 and it is working fine. I need the ability for iTunes to sync apps so it looks like I'm on borrowed time. Knowing Apple, I expect they will soon make changes to the App Store to reject access by these versions of iTunes and force everyone to upgrade to the non-app-syncing versions.

I'm expecting Mojave to finally break my copy of iTunes 10.4.1
Given the rate at which Apple updates its Macs, I may just take a pass on Mojave, and any further iTunes updates.
They'll risk a class action suit if they shut off access via the "latest" hardware, such as it is.

-Did not happen. I can still run 10.4.1 on Mojave. Apple must have missed a trick. (Dec 28/18)

Downloading updates with iTunes 12.6.4 on a Mac running 10.13.5 is working the same for me as it always has.

Mine seemed to be working OK until I stupidly activated iCloud Music on another Mac. Then my Mac running iTunes 12.6.4 lost all apps as well as music playlists. The only way to recover those apps was to transfer them back from my iPhone - purchased apps not on the iPhone are gone! (I might be able to recover them by downloading to the iPhone then transferring to the Mac).
Now I am waiting to find time to recreate music & tv show playlists.
Lesson is avoid iCloud music.
Grrr

Sorry to hear that. Time is wasted and it is just a mess.
One more reason for me to not sub to Apple Music.

Whoa! Sorry to hear that. :(

I can't help but think that it is little things like this are Apple's way of getting fence-sitters to "get all in" or "get all out".

I managed to restore an old copy of the itunes.itl file from Time Machine and got everything back. Phew!
There is often a "Previous iTunes Libraries" folder in the iTunes Media folder that keeps earlier versions of the file too.

FYI, there is a 12.6.5 update on the Apple site that is supposed to have the same functionality but support the 2018 iPhones.

Update: iTunes 12.6.5 is back but there is a note from Apple saying that is not compatible with Mojave
I am fortunate that I can cope with updating apps directly on OS devices and so don't need 12.6.x for this purpose (other than the old apps that I mentioned above). However the really annoying thing is that, for 10 years, I have used custom ringtones on my family's iPhones and every recent iOS update these have to be reloaded from iTunes 12.6.x. ITunes 12.7 does not support custom ringtones so I will lose this ability.

Ahh.. I just found some Apple Support that suggests a (cumbersome) way to restore custom ringtones with the latest iTunes: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT207955
I will try it out on another Mac running iTunes 12.7.x
