I read on MacFixit another solution that works for now, in OSX Networking Manually input your DNS numbers that the router assigns. People report that seems to solve it also.

Well I can say that manually entering the DNS numbers solved the problem on the MR814 v2.

Everything seems to run MUCH more consistent, the music store is quick and snappy again and song purchasing is working great again.

Thanks for the tip.

Why are there only problems with itunes for Macs?

I have yet to hear of a problem w/ iTunes for Windows...

You would think they want Mac iTunes to be better

I was having to live with MacOS X 10.3.7 because 10.3.8 was messing up our Internet connection with Mail, iChat, and the iTunes store, since I also have a NetGear MR814v2 router.

But, just yesterday, I did some research and found the MacFixIt message related to this problem (that more than just a few of us are having  ) and, sure enough, simply by copying my two static DNS numbers (we have Cox HSI) from my router into the Network panel, I was able to install 10.3.8 without incident. Not a single, solitary hiccup! Like the problem never existed! AUSA!

Given the only alternatives I knew of, at the time:

1) Living with 10.3.7 indefinitely
2) Buying a new brand/model of router

I'm very happy a simple fix like this was discovered and shared with the public at MacFixIt.

Well... the DNS fix worked for me as well... :) I think my internet connection seems faster as well (lag between hitting enter in Safari and the page loading). I was about ready to go buy a new router at the store.

Turns out it's not a problem with Macs, it's a problem with the hardware connected to the Macs. I'm just glad someone figured out the problem and I don't have to buy a new router (for now).

I recant my rant - seems its not Apples fault at all - and wouldn't you know that all my friends who were having problems . . . yep - all Netgear routers.

It's so fun to browse the music store again and not have to convince it to connect. All Safari problems are gone as well.

Thanks again to whoever posted that fix.

I have had nothing but headaches and mental meltdowns since installing iTunes 4.7.1

I can barely access the music store, takes at least 3 tries (very similar to Safari trying to access the web - no problems at all with Firefox), and if I do get access and decide to buy a song, it will take another 10-15 tries to actually be able to download it without getting the following error:

"There was an error downloading your purchased music. The network connection could not be made."

Thing is, I'm on the network/internet right now posting this with no problems while iTunes continues to be less than pleasant.

I used to recommend iTunes to all my friends, especially my peecee friends, now I'm almost sorry I've done so as they are getting the same errors.

This is ridiculous that I can buy music, and they charge my card, but I'm not able to actually get the music I've paid for.

I just can't believe that it's gone on like this for weeks (since the 10.3.8 update) with absolutely no fix. Unacceptable.

One problem you may have is that if you use wireless and have multiple signals they there may be somthing wrong with one of the signals. I have this problem all the time with my main signal and allways need to swich befor i get on-line. But i never seem to have that prob on any other signal. Try that

Hmm...

These sound like the exact kind of problems PC's are rampant with! Glad that the upgrade cycle has already happened!
Sounds like there is a v. simple solution to this though - I probably would have tried that very early on to sort out network problems.

I can confirm that the solution worked for me as well. Not only is the music store stable now, but it is also much, much quicker.

Not only that, but Sherlock is working again, and other small problems I've had are fixed. Thank you for the advice!

I think 10.3.9 fixes the networking "bug"!

I just installed 10.3.9, removed the DNS numbers from my Network panel (and clicked on "Apply Now"), and I'm still able to do every like before! I'm gonna reboot to make sure this is the case.

If this is the case, then the whole issue was just a bug in 10.3.8! Yea! :D

Simple fix worked for me

I had a netgear giving me fits and after reading a few threads I came up with the following fix that cleared up my troubles.

I went into the Keychin Access utility and highlighted my airport keychains in the "system" area. I then access the "change settings" under edit and turned off the selections for "lock after 5 minutes of inactivity" and "lock after sleep." Works fine now.
