So I've only tested this with a couple films from my library on a 7+, iPad Pro (2nd Gen) and X. It looks like iTunes is feeding a different encode depending on what device you're downloading from.

Oblivion
iP7+ / iPP : 5.20 GB
iPhone X : 7.22 GB

Logan
iP7+ / iPP : 5.83 GB
iPhone X : 9.19 GB

Spider-Man: Homecoming
iP7+ / iPP : 5.55 GB
iPhone X : 7.81 GB

X-Men: Apocalypse
iP7+ : 6.00 GB
iPP : 6.02 GB (not sure why there's a small difference here with the iPhone)
iPhone X : 8.34 GB

I can't think of what else would explain the size discrepancy other than an upgrade from FHD to UHD+HDR. When viewing the films on the X, HDR seems to be active, but I don't have enough first-hand experience with the tech to know for sure. I've compared both the streams and local copies for all these films (on the X) and could not discern any visible differences.

Any publication report on this yet? For the Apple TV 4K, HDR titles are only available for streaming and downloads are restricted to 1080p. But I don't remember seeing any hard confirmation 4K/HDR movies can be downloaded locally to an Apple device. Can anybody else confirm, preferably with their own data sets as well?

Hi Dex4788
Is iPhone X display 4K HDR capably?
I would like to experience the difference.
Many people say that I won’t see it on my X.
I don’t want to buy a movie or show just to see the difference. Are you aware if they have some demo version for free or I could play just some trailer in HDR?
Thanks

IPhoneX is HDR. But not 4K

Well I was confused . It’s really 2k. But anyway I could watch the same movie I did before on 6+ in significantly better quality.
Btw ... related to above question: how could I know what resolution was shot movie when I already moved it to iPhone or MacBook and I don’t have the source?
I think that size wouldn’t be correct criteria...
Thanks

Strange. I grabbed "Long Time Running" (documentary on the Tragically Hip) when it came out on the 17th. Says it should be available in 4k, but when I download it to my X, it's the 4.11GB 1080p version.

Edit: So, that's as it should be. Don't understand why the OP is getting larger files.

Well I mean that max that X could display will be 2k.
My question was : how do you know what resolution your clip is when you watch it on your phone? I mean the case when you don’t have access to ‘source ‘ clip which you downloaded and could recognize resolution but when it’s on your phone. Will player show resolution or you have to move to MacBook and find it there or etc?
Thanks
