iTunes 7.0.x playback problems

I am having a problem with playing songs purchased from the iTunes store on both my MacBook Pro and my iPod. For all purchased songs, iTunes will only play 20 or 30 seconds of the song, and then it skips to the next song. My MacBook Pro is new, but I have authorised it, and I am not above my limit on computers that are authorised. Has anyone had a similar experience, or does anyone have any suggestions for correcting this.

p.s. the problem continued even with iTunes 7.0.2.

i had tried all of those things . ..with the exception of checking/repairing permissions. alas that too failed. there are still quite a chunk of my library that will play the first 20 to 30 seconds and then jump to the next song.

***i thought i would add one thing: when you click to play a song, it never says that the song is unauthorised, no message, nothing; it just plays the first few seconds and then skips right to the next song***
